You are right but that was his choice. I was told that responsibility will be passed on to a current football on staff not the new basketball coach. I was told that the new coach will only be coaching basketball and track. My source could be wrong.

This is good news. Would attract better applicants.

HF has always been football dominant school

absolutely. Coach Kenebrew is a great guy, and did a great job at HF, and I wish him nothing but the best. He's definitely bettered his situation. HF just isn't capable of paying what some other area districts can afford to pay, which makes it tough to attract/keep quality coaches.

We are excited to announce that KJ Johnson has been named the new Head Boys Basketball Coach for your Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns!
"We are building a culture rooted in joy, respect, accountability, commitment, and toughness," said Johnson. "Our players will be challenged and supported, where they are expected to show up every day ready to bring their best."
A native of Waco, TX, Coach Johnson is a passionate educator and dedicated coach who brings a dynamic blend of experience, energy, and leadership to the Longhorns program. With several years of high school head coaching experience and three years at the Division I collegiate level, he brings a deep understanding of the game and a commitment to excellence on and off the court.
Coach Johnson has also made a significant impact on the AAU circuit, serving as a trainer and head coach for elite boys’ and girls’ programs across Texas. He is known for developing well-rounded student-athletes who excel in academics, athletics, and life beyond sports.
He holds a B.S. in Kinesiology and is currently in his final semester of a Master’s in Education Administration, set to be completed in June along with his principal certification.
His coaching journey includes valuable experience as a student coach at Lamar University(2018-2021 under Coach Tic Price), as well as leadership roles at several Texas school districts. He served as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Liberty High School, Girls Athletic Coordinator in Buna, and coached at Chilton ISD from 2021 to 2023.

Doesn’t sound like he ll be in that role very long
