I know two coaches that will apply.

Travis Williams and Tremaine Hancock.

Silsbee doesn't normally hire short term. Most coaches hired at Silsbee (football, basketball, baseball HC) stay for a while. So I can't really see them promoting Ira unless it's to bridge the gap some to have Jacob take over in a couple of years. I would be fine with that.

But there will be a pretty good list of coaches that will apply to choose from.

I was also told that Bryant from Westwood will likely apply and bring his two star sons with him.

👀 Bryant

Couldn’t go wrong hiring Williams or Hancock.. but if the Westwood coach were to apply and be hired that would be something… Jones and Bryant together would be nasty… plus the younger brother that will be a freshman from what I’ve been told is the better of the two… Also wouldn’t hurt to have Bryant play QB for Silsbee next year haha

Don’t think the money would good enough for Westwood coach to leave.

All depends on what he is looking for… As far as the situation for exposure for his sons I think Silsbee would be the move. I mean I wouldn’t think the money would be that much different in Westwood than Silsbee

The thing about the Westwood coach is would this be a long term hire? Yeah, it'd be great for Tiger basketball for the next few years. If Silsbee keeps going D2, who's beating them?

I think Jacob would be long term if he's ready. Him or Hancock.

Either way, Tiger basketball will be in good hands.

My guess is that Bryant wouldn't be long term. As soon as his last son graduates, he would be gone. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if he and his younger son left before he graduated.

Both Travis and Tremaine would be here for a while. Travis would likely retire here.

Jacob would definitely be here for many many years. He is a Silsbee Tiger through and through.

Coach Travis never Scheduled or really challenged the tigers like Coach sigler did no disrespect to any of the teams in our area or to Coach Williams but scheduling a lot of our local teams like he did back then will not help playing 5a and 6a competition will help keep our young Tigers at the top of 4a unless Mr Williams coaching style has changed I don’t want to see Silsbee in the Evadale tournament again no disrespect to any team keep the run and gun style offense and intense defense that is Silsbee we need a coach that will keep that no fear of anyone 4a 5a or 6a competition Silsbee has never backed down from.

That's one reason I support Jacob. Everybody knows what they're getting with him. I remember when Silsbee used to beat up on Kelly and Beaumont Legacy to name a few schools. With Jacob the Tigers will still play anybody anywhere, even if we ain't favored to get a W. I'm not sure what Hancock's philosophy is with scheduling.

It will be the ultimate high risk, high reward hire. Silsbee has always been really good, Jones and the two Bryant’s may be as good of top end talent they have ever had. I know that is high praise, but yes the Bryant kids are that good.

As much as I would like Jacob to take over, he isn't certified.

At Silsbee, all their head coaches are certified teachers.

Didn't know he coached at Tenaha?

He been a lot of places according to Google. With his own two plus what’s in Silsbee no doubt he can just roll some basketballs out and be successful. Just got to make sure he won’t piss off the wrong person and can make it through a couple of seasons without causing drama.

Does the coaching hire have any bearing on whether Jones stays at Silsbee?

Everyone that I have spoken to says Jones is staying in Silsbee.

We will see.

In order to be eligible for next season, he would need to transfer now. Otherwise, he takes a risk of not being signed off on or DEC rules him leaving for athletic purposes. If so, he would have to sit a year from when he enrolled at what school he transfers to.

It's not as easy at it may seem.

From a football standpoint adding Kavian Bryant and his brother to an already strong Silsbee squad immediatley makes them a state contender....from a basketball standpoint it puts them in the conversation depending on if they go D1/D2....definitely puts them in the D2 talk

Silsbee will most definitely be D2 in basketball
