I definitely do not think his style would fit, do not see stall ball being a big hit with Tiger Fans lol but I assumed anyone who is a “basketball” guy would apply.

Come on. You don’t think he knows how to press and run? Absurd statement.

I just don’t think he can run that system at lumberton. He’s been the only coach that has been successful at lumberton. I don’t understand the flack this guy gets constantly when he’s proven to be a winner.

Exactly he has success for Lumberton with his system, why would he change to a new system just because he got a new job? He wouldn’t which is why it makes sense that AAW said he didn’t apply.

AAW said He didn’t apply and I trust what he says.

In response to Harry Doyle if he had the right athletes he would run a different system. Do you know he trapped Silsbee- in full court and half court when lumberton won the district title? A good coach can coach all kids and will change his system based on personnel. Whatever gives the kids the best chance to win is what a good coach will put them in.

I heard from a very reliable source that he did apply. I think he has a better chance than people think. He is the last coach to give the tigers a district loss.

Wasnt that district loss during covid?

Even if he did apply, I do not think Silsbee is looking to hire a guy who is going to try to coach in a style he has never coached before, that is an elite job, they will get someone with a better resume that already knows about coaching their style of basketball.

what exactly does it take to be considered a "winner". I'll agree that he's improved Lumberton some, and I'll agree that being there means limited resources some years. I don't think he's a loser, and I don't think he's a bad coach. But does one district championship over the course of a career define him more than all the other results?

Getting some conflicting word on who has applied.

I do know this. Bryant is no longer in the running for the job. Couldn't come to an agreement.

I really feel no reason to leave Westwood, they have a great young group coming up in basketball and Football team seems to be pretty good too.

he’s the only coach that has brought lumberton to the playoffs and he’s been 2 time coach of the year at lumberton which we all know is one of the worse basketball schools in Texas. He won at dville(terrible basketball school), spurger(pretty good b-ball school back in the day), and now lumberton. He’s competitive every where he goes. This is always a dumb convo that goes in a circle because yall don’t like the energy he brings and what he expects out of the players. He coaches hard and you don’t like that.

Silsbee was healthy that game from what I remember. Same Silsbee team that beat Yates the same year.

Lets go back to that year. Silsbee loss to LCM, Vidor and Lumberton. Silsbee beat Yates. But we both lost to Huffman Silsbee loss 62-56 and  Lumberton loss 68-34. I have no idea if Mitchell is a great coach for Silsbee or not. My personal opinion I wanted someone from Silsbee to keep it going the way it has been. But I do believe Silsbee was not 100% in that Lumberton game.

The majority of the crap he catches on here is a result of the nonsensical posts from his groupies, not the energy he brings. One district championship and a handful of you guys started inserting him into every conversation about elite coaches or elite job openings that came up. Never seen anything like it on this site for another coach. The last four years have at least calmed some of that down.

But to get back on topic: I personally don't see Silsbee hiring a guy who coaches a completely different style than what they run, and has had minimal success against them.

🤣🤣🤣 nah I’m not him. I do like Mitchell tho.

from my convos- he did not apply

I don't not like him I think he is a fine coach, I am with Bullets on it just being comical that either his groupies, (or him) get on here and act like he is god's gift to basketball with no actual stats to back it up.

No it’s just the stats that he has- you somehow just overlook? Coach of the year twice. Supergold coach of the year once.  I have to get on here and back him up because yall constantly berate this dude. I coached against him  once, back when I was still in the profession. He came in prepared and ready to go. One of the best in the area
