Clerc Koenck Named Southland Conference Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year

Koenck adds top academic honor to impressive resume

FRISCO, Texas - Lamar University senior cross country standout Clerc Koenck continued her reign atop the Southland Conference, earning Capital One/Southland Conference Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Year honors as voted upon by the Awards Committee and released by the league office.

Koenck, a native of Anacoco, La., posted a 3.77 GPA, while majoring in exercise science, was also named to the 2007 U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Association All-Academic team. A four-time member to the Dean's List at Lamar, she has also been on the president's list one time.

Koenck has been equally impressive in athletic competition as she is in the classroom, earning 2006 and 2007 SLC Cross Country Athlete of the Year honors with back to back SLC Championships. This season, she won her second-straight SLC championship with a time of 20:48.1. She earned all region honors with a fourth place finish and ran to a school-best 114th place finish at the NCAA Championship.

The All-Academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each SLC university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.

Included in Capital One's support of the Southland Conference Academic Awards Program is the F.L. McDonald Postgraduate Scholarship presented by Capital One, and the Capital One Southland Conference All-Academic Teams, the Capital One Scholar-Athlete Award and the Capital One Commissioner's Honor Roll.
