To answer #3, some districts are much more competitive than others. This district (22-4A) has had second and third place teams go as deep or deeper than the district champ.
Fluke, maybe but so what? Its not the 50 that matter, its the 2 that got into the championship that count. Unless you are new to this you cannot really think that ANY team getting to the State Championship in Texas 5A is a fluke? Although I would have voted against the addition of the 4th team, the fact that 2 of 4 teams that made it to the Finals in 5A were the 4th place teams in their district totally and completely validates adding the 4th team. It just goes to show you that there are districts out there that have a LOT of quality football going on and teams are getting left out that totally deserve to be in the playoffs. Granted in most cases you are adding a team that blows but there is no way to ignore the outcome.Yeah sure, in the first 2 weeks all the bottom dwellers will be weeded out. So what? It extends the season by a week in division 1 and it gives those 2 teams that DESERVED a playoff spot a shot to go all the way. I guess time will tell if it was more than a 1 year fluke, but if you consistantly have 4th place teams going 3-4 games deep then it was a good decision as far as I am concerened because they are having to beat GOOD teams to get that far. JS
Any way that I slice it I still come up with garbage. The district games should count for something. Teams that blow it or just plain suck during district should stay home.

There have been several times when the fourth place team missed out by a coin flip or a field goal.
