Bobcat1
Wow. Our youth did NOT show tonight! KK and Laura fouled out early 4th quarter. We were up 15 at the beginning of the 4th. Allie Beach you did so awesome. She finished with 28 points. KK of course you did awesome, they ran a box and one around her the most of the game. Freshman Marissa Wyatt did very well way to step up! Sophomore Aimee Scales hit 2 free throws at a crucial point in the game. Very porud of these girls we are now 8 - 0 in district! Keep it up Lady Bobcats. Guest bleed orange
All I can say is WOW! Our two seniors have to be smarter than they were tonight. But you know what we grew as a team tonight. This game was awesome. I can't say enough about our young girls. They stepped up and won this game. We are coming together as a team and it is a wonderful thing to watch. Allie Beach, Jessica Weldon, Oliva Wagner, Marissa Wyatt, Amiee Scales and Selby Poole. You ladies did awesome tonight. Also all I can say is Ang Green is a gifted athlete but I already knew that.
KFDM COOP
No. 14 Lady ’Cats hold off No. 20 Lady Tigers, 76-59Gabriel PruettThe Orange LeaderORANGEFIELD — His two seniors on the bench for half of the fourth quarter and Silsbee’s Ang Green hitting for 38 points could not have been the game plan for Orangefield Coach Chris Jost had in mind Tuesday. It sure did work out well for the Lady Bobcats in Bobcats Gym.Led by the work of junior Allie Beach the No. 14 Lady Bobcats stayed poised down the stretch and defeated the No. 20 Lady Tigers, 76-59.The win gives Orangefield a two-game lead over both Silsbee and Hardin-Jefferson in the District 21-3A race.Beach struck for a team-high 29 points as Orangefield (17-9, 8-0) passers consistently found her open under the basket for easy lay-ups.All the points were critical and so were the key free throwing shooting of several underclassmen down the stretch.Sophomore Aimee Scales, freshman Marissa Wyatt and junior Olivia Wagner went 9-for-12 on late free throws to make sure the rally from the Lady Tigers (15-9, 6-2) came up short.Wagner finished the night wit 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Kaylin Little added nine points, six assists, six rebounds and four assists. Laura Riddick put in nine points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals and teammate Jessica Weldon added seven points and six steals.“Wow, how about that effort from our underclassmen tonight,†Jost said. “Our two seniors fouled out, Silsbee had us on the ropes and we could have easily crumbled. We got on the rebounds, hit our free throws and played great defense down the stretch. That is the mental toughness we strive four every day.â€Silsbee’s Brittany Henry had 17 points and 13 rebounds while Green added 11 points in the loss.Orangefield carried a 61-46 lead into the fourth period before Green got seriously hot from the field.Green scored the Lady Tigers’ first nine points in the final frame before Cierra Wilson buried a three making it 64-58.Chelsye Tyler then hit a free throw before Green was sent back to the line at 5:02 when Little picked up her fifth foul.Green’s two free throws made it 64-61 Lady Bobcats. With 3:44 left in the game Riddick was called for her fifth foul and Tyler, who had 17 points, sank two more freebies making it 65-63.Silsbee would then get no closer. At the 2:23 mark Scales, who finished with six points and six rebounds, came up with a huge play off her own missed free throw. Scales hit the front-end of a one-and-one but miss the second and was able to grab the rebound.Orangefield came away with no points yet valuable time was ran off the clock.Wyatt, who had six points, then started the nice run of free throw shooting for the Lady Bobcats with 49.6 left in the game and the Lady Tigers could not close the gap.“We might have played even better tonight than we played the first go around,†Jost said. “Tonight Silsbee was at full strength and we were just able to get the job done. Last time we were able to hold Ang in check. Tonight she did whatever she wanted to do. She had a monster game and she is unbelievable. This was by far the best I have ever seen her play.â€In the first go-around Orangefield limited Green, who recently signed on with Lamar University, to 15 points in a 74-69 Lady Bobcats’ victory. The Lady Bobcats stormed out of the gates in the first period by outscoring the Lady Tigers 20-13.Little had six points in the game’s first eight minutes while Riddick and Weldon added five. The second period belonged to Beach.Beach had 12 points in the second as Silsbee just did not have any answer for her presence down low in the paint.“Their (Silsbee) trapping defense left her open and she capitalized on it tonight,†Jost said. “She (Beach) has been huge for us in the run through district. Her play payed off huge for us tonight.â€The Lady Bobcats took a 37-28 lead into the break and then it was Beach and Green each pointing up the points in the third. Both players hit for 12 points after half-time yet Silsbee could only gain one point on Orangefield in the third as the Lady Bobcats led 61-46.Silsbee out-rebounded Orangefield 44-37 while the Lady Bobcats won the turnover battle. The Lady Tigers had 16 turnovers while the Lady Bobcats had 12.The Lady Bobcats return to action Friday when they travel to face Jasper. CoachKfan
I too congratulate the Orangefield girls and coaching staff. They have done a great job this year. The team plays solid defense. Coach Jost has come into a tough situation and has done a very nice job. I look forward to a great game when they come to HJ.
