*Nederland vs. Vidor/40-38 Vidor/Comments*

Recommended Posts

Congrats to Coach Robinson and the team.  They did what they had to do to beat Nederland which was to slow the game down.  Nederland couldn't make a shot in the first quarter.  It goes to show that there is quite a bit of parity in this district which makes for some close games.

I was disappointed in the Vidor High School student fans, who thought it was o.k. to throw the minature basketballs, given out at the half, at the Nederland players after the game. >:(  It showed a complete lack of class.  The players on both sides played hard and did not deserve that treatment.  The adults who were standing next to the students should have put a stop to it.

Vidor made Nederland play their game.  If Nederland doe not find a way to play a complete four quarters, then the playoffs will only be a dream.  I didd like the looks of the five starting the second half.  That combination seems to have a better chemistry than the combination that has been starting.  I still believe in you dogs but you got to play better.

every school has their students who are immature and show no respect...true they should not have thrown the balls but its not just the "vidor" kids who do stuff like this

I agree with you that every school has those students.  But last night it was Vidor students and it should have been addressed not ignored because every school has them.  I hope all schools would address those students.  If addressed less schools will have those students.  As NHS83 noted there were adults around.  It should not have taken him yelling across the court to get them to stop.  The adults around them and the school administration should have been observant and put a stop to it.  Every school should know where their students are and pay attention to them.  I would have no problem telling a teen to stop acting inappropriately.  Yell and heckle all you want during the game; it's part of the competitive spirit.  After it's over, win or lose, have class.
Most of Nederland and Vidor's fans fit in the class category and I have the utmost respect for them.

It was a good game to watch.  No other actions should take away from it.  Vidor has found a style that is working fro them.  Again Congrats!

Congratulations to Vidor for the hard fought win. I was not personally there but heard it was
a hard & intense game for both teams. The kind of game I really like to see.  Congrats go to
both teams for playing well with each other. ;)

I don't know what fully happened with some of the Vidor students but I cannot believe administration
allowed throwing of the balls at the opposing team.  Apparently, some adults were not paying attention.

During volleyball season, I let my son stay after & watch a game.  He later told me that he & some buddies were with a friend who was on crutches and they were in the stands.  My son and another kid each had a crutch in their hand and the other kid dropped the crutch down a bleacher or two.  The buddies ran off and left my son with the other crutch and the injured friend sitting there.  The principal came up to my son and escorted him out of the gym for this infraction.  So, throwing of the balls at opposing teams......REALLY should not have been tolerated or allowed in any fashion.  That is very disrespectful. >:(

I know it is not my place....but I do apologize for this kind of behavior from our students.  This kind of behavior is what gives cities a bad name.  Again, truly sorry.

Thanks VP.  I assure you my opinion of Vidor fans is not diminished because of a few kids who made a bad decision.  I know numerous fans, adult and kids alike over there, and count them as good people.  During a game I holler as loud as anyone and have stepped over the line a time or two.  Usually at the refs.  It's part of getting caught up in the game and I can accept that.  But after the game I want to be able to shake players on both teams hands and tell them how proud I am of their efforts.  I look forward to the next game with Vidor and seeing the friends I have made due to interactions at basketball and baseball games.
