Bruins dominate Titans

The Memorial Titans could not get their shots to fall, they could not get their free throws to fall and they could not keep from turning over the ball.

It was a recipe for disaster and that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday night, as the West Brook Bruins dominated their way to a 62-47 victory in Port Arthur.

The lead changed hands four times in the first quarter, but Marcus Malbrough’s bucket with 3:13 left in the quarter gave the Bruins a 9-8 advantage. That scored moved West Brook ahead for good, as they went on an 8-1 run to close the first frame with a 17-9 lead.

Malbrough scored a game-high 13 points, leading four other Bruins in double-digits.

Memorial was led by JeKore Tyler. He scored 17 points and was the only constant source of offense for the Titans.

Tyler also provided Memorial with a little spark late in the fourth quarter when the Titans were trying desperately to make a come back.

After a pair of free throws, Tyler made a steal and finished his great play with a dunk. That score capped a 10-2 run for Port Arthur and cut the game to 52-43, forcing the Bruins to take a timeout.

After the timeout, Memorial continued to play smothering defense and Tyler ended up with another steal. Unfortunately, when trying to score, Tyler lost control of the ball and Beaumont recovered the long rebound.

It was possibly the key rebound of the game because from that point, West Brook hit 10 free throws to close out the game. And in that stretch, the Titans scored just once.

The only positive statistic Memorial led in was rebounding, as the Titans grabbed 34 rebounds to West Brook’s 31.

With the loss, Port Arthur, who could never break the Bruins zone defense, falls to 14-10 overall and 4-2 in District 21-5A.

Beaumont continued to force Memorial to shoot from outside but the Titans never found their stroke. Memorial made just one 3-pointer in the game.

Tyler hit that trey with 1:49 left in the third quarter to make the score 41-29.

Jordan Reno cut the score to 43-34 when he made a pair of free throws early in the fourth quarter. That was as close as the Titans got in the second half, as Beaumont answered immediately with a 7-0 run, highlighted by a rebound and put back bucket from Malbrough, who was also fouled on the play.

62-47 sorry for transposing my numbers COOP!!!

This shows why WB should not lose another game in district even though Simon will find a way to!!!

Whats funny is WB's two best players... Lenard Whittington (8 pts.) and Donte Lopez (11 pts) had bad games and still lead a blowout!
