The Rangers had a ball against an old rival, knocking off Spring 4-2 on the road. Michael Pittman scored two goals with Geovane Preciado and Ricardo Caceres each adding one to lift Sterling to 2-2 on the season.

“It was a great overall effort,” Sterling head coach Jim Richter said. “It was great going up there and beating them. I wish they were still in our district so we could do it again.”

The Rangers entered the second half tied 2-2 and scored two goals to put the Lions away. Corey Fox and Adrian Gonzales each had strong games in the net for Sterling. Gerardo Hernandez also had a strong game defensively in his first start at sweeper.

The Rangers will return to action on Friday when they host La Porte at Stallworth Stadium. It will be the home opener for Sterling.

Lee girls 7, Mount Carmel 0

Diana Martinez and Gracy Cadenas scored two goals each Tuesday night to lead Robert E. Lee’s girls’ to a 7-0 soccer win over Mount Carmel at Sultis Stadium.

The win evened the Lady Ganders’ record at 1-1 and sends them off on a high note to this weekend’s Katy I-10 Shootout, which begins Thursday.

“We did some nice things,” coach Jay Langlois said. “We started playing with our heads up.”

Martinez got the scoring started with a goal in the 12th minute of play. Priscilla Villareal made it 2-0 with a score in the 17th minute. Cadenas and Martinez scored in the 37th and 39th minute, respectively, to make it 4-nil at halftime.

Amanda Graham and Cadenas were quick out of the gate in the second half, scoring back-to-back in the 43rd and 44th minute for a 6-0 lead. Brenda Chavez scored in the 71st minute to close things out for Lee.

The Lady Ganders open play in the Katy Tournament on Thursday at 2 p.m. when they take on Cy-Springs.
