Guest coachacola Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 According to Pomeroy, here's the projected SLC standings: East

Lamar12-4

SELA11-5

Nicholls7-9

McNeese6-10

NW State6-10

UCA5-11

West

SFA13-3

SHSU11-5

UTA10-6

Texas State6-10

UTSA5-11

TAMU-CC5-11

Going 12-4 in conference would put LU's record at 18-11 for the season, and IF we win the SLC tourney, 21-11 heading into the NCAA tourney. I hope this team can keep improving and make it to 20 wins. After starting 1-5 that would truly be amazing.
weslinder Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Northwestern will finish higher than that. I know it's only four more wins, but Texas State will be lucky to do that well.
Guest abovetherim Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Agree but that is interesting to say the least. Would be awesome if Lamar could finish the season that strong. I think it would help boost the attendance numbers we have been talking about on another thread.
UNLV Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Something is wrong wqith pomeroy numbers. They project Lamar at 12-4, 3 more loses from now. But the game to game projection is 1 more lost, 14-2
jake94 Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 I am excited about LU as well, but until we learn to win on the road 12-4 is a pipe dream. If we can learn to win road games the sky is the limit. LU will be tough to beat at the Montagne in my opinion.

This accounts for the unexpected results that will inevitably happen during the season.

They get two very winnable road games this week, one of which I'd say that they should win. Hopefully they'll show us something.
Guest astrosfan75956 Posted January 21, 2008 Report Posted January 21, 2008 GO LAMAR... I want to see them in the tourney again..
UNLV Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 If....err when Lamar makes the tourney, guess who Lamar will face? UT Longhorns.
Guest coachacola Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 If....err when Lamar makes the tourney, guess who Lamar will face? UT Longhorns. It's waaaaaayyyyy to early to be talking NCAA tourney matchups, but playing UT would be fun. That would be a high scoring game, with UT probably scoring a lot more the LU.
bullets13 Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 If....err when Lamar makes the tourney, guess who Lamar will face? UT Longhorns. this would be fun, but texas isn't going to be a #1, and lamar won't be anything but a #16 if they get in.

I promise you if Lamar wins the East division, then wins the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament there is no way with the ranking of the SLC this season Lamar will be a 16 seed. Sorry but I disagree here. Of course, talk of the NCAA tournament is premature at this point in the season.
Guest coachacola Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 Last year TAMU-CC was a 15th seed with a RPI around 80 and a 24-6 record. This year both SHSU and SFA have RPIs around 85, so if one of those teams continues to win then they would probably get a 14 or 15 seed. Lamar could get a 15 seed if they only lose a few more games, but with a low RPI now and with 8 losses already, I wouldn't be surprised by a 16 seed.
Guest abovetherim Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 True, you are correct I should remember we are talking about the NCAA selection committee.
Guest coachacola Posted January 22, 2008 Report Posted January 22, 2008 I don't trust the selection committee one bit so a 16 seed wouldn't surprise me one bit. Back in 2000 win LU snuck in with a .500 record, they deserved a 16 seed. But if LU keeps getting better and ends up 21-11 or something close to that, then they should get at least a 15 seed. And there's a big difference between a first seed and the 2nd or 3rd seeds. We're getting ahead of ourselves, but with the SLC being stronger this year than in year's past, any team the wins the SLC tourney should be at least a 15 seed.
