The Southland Conference women's basketball player of the week was awarded to Lamar freshman Tamara Abalde. A native of Vigo, Spain, Abalde joins UTSA freshman Whitney York as the only players to win two player of the week awards this season. Tamara Abalde, Lamar, Fr., 6’2, Guard, Vigo, Spain Abalde led Lamar to a pair of wins over Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State last week, averaging 23 points and 13 rebounds per game. In LU’s win over SFA Abalde scored 22 points and grabbed a season-high 15 rebounds. She followed that performance with 24 points and 11 boards against Sam Houston on Saturday.
