The Port Arthur News

SOUR LAKE -- Port Neches-Groves had not scored more than four goals in any game before Tuesday night but the Indians adjusted their varsity roster and received a spark from a pair of freshman call-ups in defeating Hardin-Jefferson 8-0.

PN-G (5-2-1 and 3-1) scored four times in each half and Tribe coach Don Sandell welcomed the addition of newcomers Trevor Hoffpauir and Nick Guidry from the junior varsity. The Indians thoroughly dominated shots on goal, 29-3. The loss dropped the Hawks to 0-4 and 0-4.

"We finally got offensive tonight," Sandell said. "Actually I'm really proud of our defense. Our offense fed off of our defensive energy."

Tanner Worley scored two first-half goals and Matt Morrell knocked in an unassisted goal before Hoffpauir converted a Carlos Ortiz corner kick with seven minutes left in the half.

Guidry opened the second-half scoring eight minutes into the second half. Ortiz, Justice Lloyd and goalkeeper Steven Baque (penalty kick) completed PN-G's second-half production.

PN-G will visit West Orange-Stark on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
