Guest abovetherim Posted January 27, 2008 Report Share Posted January 27, 2008 Cardinal Track Runs Strong at McNeese Indoor Meet Lamar will be back in action at Houston Indoor Classic on Friday and Saturday Jan. 27, 2008 LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Lamar University men's and women's track teams had a solid showing at the McNeese State Cowboy Indoor Invitational on Friday evening in Lake Charles, La. The Cardinals were very impressive in the 400 meter dash, taking first place in both the women's and men's race, while also winning the women's 4x400 meter relay while the men finished in second place. In the women's 400 meter dash Brittany Pollard took the top spot as the only runner to finish under 60 seconds, posting a time of 58.80. Toni Sylvester registered a second place finish with a time of 60.08, Ashley Smith finished in fourth place in 61.59 and Angel Basset came in ninth with a time of 64.71. In the men's 400, Jerel Massenburge was the only Cardinal to run, but he made the most of his time on the track by taking first place in a time of 51.71. In the 4x400 meter relays the women's "A" team ran to a first place finish with a 3:58.26 performance while the "B" team finished in third place in a time of 4:05.55. The men's relay team narrowly missed a first place finish running a 3:25.48, with Texas State edging them at the finish line, crossing in 3:25.22. Freshman Megan Bibbs took the top spot in the women's 55-meter hurdles, running an 8.39, which ties for the fifth fastest time in school history. Jessika Johnson finished just on the heels of Bibbs, running an 8.41, while Adrianne Johnson came in fourth place with an 8.56 performance. Kim Ballenger also made the finals, running to a seventh place finish in a time of 9.01. Also grabbing a first place finish was Karesse Lethermon who took the top spot in the women's 3,000 meter run in a time of 10:47.37. Stacey Monteau finished in second place in the 3,000, running to a 10:53.79 finish. In the men's 3,000 meter run Lamar had three runners finish in the top five, led by Randy Becker who took second place in a time of 8:45.72. Frank Bwambale grabbed third place with an 8:48.19 performance while Spencer Prudhomme finished in fifth place with a time of 9:10.68. In the men's 55-meter dash Michael Gauthier raced to a second place finish with a 6.56 finish while Julius Kasule finished in fifth place in 6.66 seconds. Stephen Boone ran to a seventh place finish with a 6.74 performance, while JaMarkus Tolbert finished in 10th place in a time of 6.88. In the men's 55-meter hurdles Boone grabbed a fourth place finish in 7.90 seconds. In the women's 55-meter dash Sahara Abraham finished in third place in a time of 7.48, while Jessika Johnson finished in fifth in 7.54 seconds. Porshe Williams finished in seventh place in a time of 7.57 and Bibbs took ninth place in a time of 7.68 seconds. Williams also ran in the women's 200 meter dash, grabbing a fourth place finish with a 27.29 performance. In the women's mile run Merci Bungei ran to a third place finish with a 5:29.19 performance. The men's mile had two Cardinals finish in the top five, with Ewan Simpson taking third place in a time of 4:23.43 while Jared Rodriguez took fifth place in a time of 4:33.45. In the 800 meter races Alex Mayfield took sixth place in the women's event with a 2:29.02 performance, while Austin Malek finished in seventh place in the men's race with a 2:05.28 performance. Aaron Malek finished in 10th place with a 2:06.77 performance.
