Guest Ozen Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 The Orangefield High School Lady Bobcats are 19-9 overall and 11-0 in the Golden Triangle's tough District 21-3A. A large part of that success is due to the electric play of senior Kaylin Little, who is averaging 22 points per game. Orangefield head coach Chris Jost said the 5-foot, 5-inch shooting guard is a threat to score from anywhere on the court. "She can definitely drive the lane and hit the three," Jost said. To make matters worse for Orangefield's opponents is that the quick guard can score points in a hurry. "She has spurts where she has quarters in double digits," Jost said. Little hasn't padded her stats against weak competition. She scored 36 points in one of the two victories over rival Silsbee High School, a team considered by some to be the 21-3A preseason favorite. So far during this campaign, Little has hit 59 3-pointers at a 34-percent clip and is a 77-percent shooter from the charity stripe. Little's offensive abilities go beyond scoring. She is a good passer and is averaging just under 3 assists per game. According to Little, Orangefield's winning ways this year hasn't been because of offense. "Our defense is the key to our success," she said. Her feisty style of play is evident on defense, where she averages 4.7 steals a contest. "I like to get after them," Little said. Jost said there are several reasons for Little's ability to wreak havoc on the defensive end of the court. "She anticipates well on defense," Jost said. "She has quick hands and quick feet." Little's performance this year should not come as a surprise to anyone. She was an All-State selection by the Texas Girls coaches Association as a junior. She averaged 20.3 points and 3.1 steals per game last year. Texas Hoops Analysis: Little is electric player who can, and will, take control of a game. She can shoot and run. Her speed allows her to be a force to be reckoned with on defense.
Cat22 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 Thanks for posting that Ozen. KK is a special player. She has been fun to watch the past four years. She never quits.
Bobkat Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 She is definitely one of those once in a lifetime type players. She has all the tools to compete at the next level and hopefully she gets that chance. Not a lot of people know this about Kaylin, but she's also over the 2000 point total for her career. This is not official but after doing some research, she stands at 1844 points not including her freshmen year. She averaged over 8 points a game her freshmen year, so that should have put her over the 156 points needed to get there. Plus she still has 3 district games left and the playoffs. Here are her total points for each year... 10th grade...557 11th grade...643 12th grade...644
