The Bridge City girls, with the Motto "We're Back" won their first meet in years by defeating the powerhouse Westbrook girls team on Saturday. After winning 3 State Championships in the early 90's, the girls team has dwindled in the last 10 years. After a rejuvenation in 2007, the girls team is back to full strength in 2008. The girls stunned Westbrook 41-40 with Nederland coming in a distant third. Vidor, Port Arthur, Ozen, Kelly, and several other girl teams competed well. The Lady Cards were led by first place winners Ricci Shoemaker, Alexa Richmond, Brittany Myers, and Valerie Brown. They received second and third place finishes from Amy Caillouet, Emily Blanchard, Taylor Daville, and Shelbie Huffman. Other members of the team include Sarah McClure and Ashley Angelle. Impressive lifts included 95lb Ricci Shoemaker's 215lb deadlift, 132lb Brittany Myers 165lb bench press, and Valerie Browns 350lb squat. The Bridge City boys, fresh off of a victory at the Nederland Meet, competed hard. They did not bring their full team, but still managed 3rd behind Ozen and Port Neches-Groves. 132lb Tim Sharp won Outstanding Lifter in the lightweight division, for a 2nd meet in a row, with an 1150 total. 198lb Kris Wedekind had a 3 lift total of 1430lbs, 1st Place finishes belonged to 114lb Devon Ocegura and 132lb Tim Sharp. 2nd place finishes went to 132lb Micah Ellender, 181lb Garrett McNeil, and 198lb Kris Wedekind. The Girls will compete again this Thursday at Palacios, while the guys will be in Lumberton on Feb. 9th.
