I'm interested to see what the turnout for the vote is going to be. It's tough with these kind of votes because the folks that would be against it, probably just don't care and the folks who are for it will make sure to vote...

Yep -- no state $$$ towards athletics. Schools got to do bonds and also, sometimes make the building partially used for academics so the state picks up some of the $$$.

Funny thing is -- Lamar faithful believe they have no business in FCS. We're basically adding another Texas State - San Marcos program. A program that will not be a consistent outside of maybe in the cellar (Lamar FB was not pretty in the 1980s and they have a hole to dig out of this time around as it relates to facilities)....that clamors to be in the highest non-championship awarding division.

Now, I can understand why he and some others may resent Lamar starting a football program. 1. Because, Lamar will be another school who will be offering 63 football scholarhips and will heavily recruit SE Texas/Houston/East Texas. 2. I haven't read anyone on here state from day one we are looking to move to FBS football. Heck, we will be starting a program from scratch and there will be several years before Lamar builds the program to a point where the thought of FBS football would make any logical sense. 3. This particular SLC football guru will be eating some crow after he sees the dollar amount already pledge for football from boosters and corporate sponsors. 4. I for one can care less about past history with the football failures of past LU football teams as there is better leadership and and this is more like starting a totally new football program and IMO we are really not "resuming" a football program. After about 19 years without the sport at Lamar it is more accurate to state Lamar is "starting" a football program. 5. I will not be stupid and state Lamar will be a top tier football program in the SLC for the first few years due to the majority of players will be RS freshmen, freshmen and junior college transfers. 6. This states Lamar fan's are suck in the 80's yet he bring up the 80's when he feels it is his interest to use it. I find that just interesting. 7. I read and posted a article from the PA news in which our LU AD is seeking the input from several sources including the only two men to win a formerly I-A (now FBS) national championship and win a Super Bowl in the NFL. 8. This man stated on another website Lamar would hire a SLC assistant or a high school coach to jump start our program. He may need to find out who Lamar has already contacted about coaching at Lamar? 9. I promise to let all you guys know all I know of the aspects for football which haven't been make public yet. 10. After all be facilities upgrade have been completed I promise you guys Lamar will not have a second rate football facilities as it relates to other members of the SLC.
