Crawford named to President's List, Abalde on Dean's List

Jan. 29, 2008

BEAUMONT - While the Lamar University women's basketball team has been enjoying a successful start to the 2007-08 season, two Lady Cardinals have been excelling in the classroom as well.

Guards Ashley Crawford and Tamara Abalde were recently named to the President's List and the Dean's List after turning in impressive academic semesters.

Crawford, who began the season as the team's starting point guard before a knee injury sidelined her, is one of 423 LU students to earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average and qualify for the President's List. Students earning a place in the President's List are also included on the Dean's List for their respective colleges.

Abalde was named to the Dean's List. To qualify for the Dean's List a student must carry a full course load of 12 semester hours or more. Freshman must earn a grade point average of 3.40 or higher, and juniors and seniors must attain a GPA of 3.60 or higher.

Abalde has also been a force on the court for the Lady Cardinals, leading the team in scoring and rebounding with 17.2 points and in 7.6 rebounds per game. Her 17.3 points per game ranks second in the NCAA among freshman basketball players.

The Lady Cardinals, who are 5-0 in Southland Conference play for the first time in school history, will be in action again next Saturday afternoon when host McNeese State at 4 p.m. at the Montagne Center.
