KFDM COOP Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Titans drop important game to Eagles By Cody Pastorella The Port Arthur News The Memorial Titans couldn’t catch a break in Tuesday’s very important 60-53 loss to the Atascocita Eagles in Port Arthur. The game was well decided midway through the second quarter when Memorial trailed 24-10 after watching the Eagles put on a 16-2 run. But the Titans were a stubborn bunch on Tuesday and managed to cut the game to six points with 36 seconds left on the clock when Jacovin Buckner heit a pair of free throws. Buckner’s two points put the score at 57-51. Memorial fouled to send Atascocita’s Shawn Taran to the line with 32 seconds left. Taran missed both shots but the Titans missed out on a very important rebound that the Eagles gathered up, forcing Memorial to foul again. The Eagles converted those free throws to put the game at 59-51 and out of reach with just 30 ticks on the clock to go. With the loss, Memorial and Atascocita move into a two-way tie for fourth place in District 21-5A with a 6-4 league mark. There are just four games remaining in the district season and only four teams make the playoffs. Memorial’s JeKore Tyler nearly brough the Titans back by himself in the third quarter. Tyler scored 14 in the third and had 16 on the night, which led all scorers. He helped the Titans get off a 10-4 run to cut the game down to 37-31 with two minutes to play in the third. In the final minute, however, Memorial turned the ball over three times to Atascocita, who scored six unanswered points to close out the third period with an 8-2 run. That run was too much for the Titans to overcome as the Eagles started the fourth quarter with a 47-34 lead. Even though all seemed lost, Memorial tried its hardest to fight back in the final eight minutes. But every time the Titans forced a turnover, they gave one right back.
Guest DickVitale Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Coop, this may be a crazy question, but.....Is J'Covan even attending the games to support his former teammates?
