rtdirish Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 We might as well get this going. Who are the leading candidates and who is it going to be? Someone local or are they going to try to get a bigger name nationally?
ozens fastest@1906 Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Being a hometown boy, I would think they should get a local for the job. But knowing Lamar they'll go and get a coach from some division II college or maybe they'll try and get some assistant fomr a big school with no head coaching experience...
jfriezy98 Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Lets hope that whoever is brought in knows what a huge task this is to restore this program. And lets also hope that the community will support this coach and the program. For an area so rich in talent, it needs to be recruited by Lamar. In my opinion, the head coach needs to be a veteran college head coach that will demand certain things from the university and the athletes, that he knows are vital to the success of the program. No politician or pushover. This man needs a demanding personality, and I think that will trickle down and draw support and interest in the community. Just my opinion...
rtdirish Posted February 1, 2008 Author Report Posted February 1, 2008 What about a head high school guy who has big college experiance? Stump comes to mind obvouisly.
Tiger90 Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 No high school guy needs to even be considered. This has got to be a splash. Getting a "name" is a must. Forget focusing on just the local and look at the big picture. Sure whoever gets it needs to add local flavor but they have to be able to pull from the talent rich areas of Houston and Dallas as well.

Guest abovetherim Posted February 1, 2008 Report Posted February 1, 2008 Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer is helping Tubbs find the right coach. No SH*T, I didnt know Billy Tubbs had connections like that..... I know a lot of people forget he put OU basketball on the map. His 1988 Sooners team played for the National Championship. Who was the football coach at OU at the time? Yep, that's right Barry Switzer.
