tvc184 Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 i may be a homer but in recent years Jamie Knight and Matt Peebles were exciting to watch This thread cries out for people to be homers. If you were busy watching your high school play year after year, who else is going to be your "favorite" player? Maybe your favorite player is an athlete that you rarely saw for your arch rival? I think not. If the title to the thread would have been "who is the best athlete ever from this area" then I can see picking a player from another school. I can just about guarantee that most fan's favorite players were the ones that they went to see week in and week out.
jdawg03 Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 well since we're talkin about favorites.....one of mine is Marlon Cook from Jasper
Guest bulldogbark Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 Well then I would have to say Jdawg03 in the summer of 02 playing something but doing it well. He once ran for .....oops that wasnt him...oh yeah he caught over ......nope not him either.....OH he scored more points than....nope that was someone else.....well he did something , somewhere to someone at sometime yeah thats what it was
Guest bleed orange Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 Tommy Peevy from Orangefield was fun to watch. He was big, strong, and quick. He just ran over people from his fullback position. He graduated in 1982. We have had some good fullbacks over the years. Kirk Hobbs and Toby Shults to name a few.
Bobkat Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 Jeff Granger from Orangefield was pretty special. All American in both football and baseball his senior year. Don't know if that's ever been done by anyone else in our area?

Bobcatfan4life Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 I think most people in OF would vote for Thomas Hamrick. Rushed for around 230 yards in the 03 game against BC in leading the Bobcats over the Cardinals. Heck of a game to watch.
WOS92 Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 Kenneth "Deon" Beasley, no doubt. Coming in not far behind are Eric Anderson, Chris Cole, Kevin Smith, Jeff Thibodeaux and a host of other Mustangs.
SteelerCzy Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 I played with Brian Ward from BC in the late 70's and early 80's, he was a special talent, the complete package of speed and power.
KFDM COOP Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 I think most people in OF would vote for Thomas Hamrick. Rushed for around 230 yards in the 03 game against BC in leading the Bobcats over the Cardinals. Heck of a game to watch. What ever happened to Hamrick?
exbccards76smom Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Saw him outside of his parents house awhile back.
KFDM COOP Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 I was to young to remember him but people tell me he bulldozered people.
meat Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 mayhew brothers from nederland and paul thomas from wo-s
KFDM COOP Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Two good ones there as well. Paul Thomas took a few fingernails off when he was playing.
Guest bleed orange Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 I think Hamrick joined the service. Which branch I don't know. I think maybe the marines.
KFDM COOP Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Way before my time but some of the old timers say Ernie "The Cat" Ladd from Orange would just step over people when he played. ::k
cardinal81o7 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 hamrick joined the coast gaurd and is in alaska, hes a good friend of the family and my brothers best friend. i heard it after that game
WOS95 Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 ernie ladd was a sucessful pro wrestler too 8)
Critter Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 I would say Kevin Smith WOS, and be ready for Johnny Dishon this year..IMO he will be the most talked about high schooler this time next year (Baseball that is paving the way) Also, My days in high school it would have to be Kendall Cleveland a real power house on both sides of the ball..
