Nabors Double-Double Powers Lamar Past McNeese State, 89-67

Cardinals win fourth-straight game

Justin Nabors posted his fourth double-double of the season with 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead Lamar University to a 89-67 win over arch-rival McNeese State at the Montagne Center on Saturday.

Nabors had 19 in the second half with 16 coming in a 35-16 Lamar run that turned a five-point game into a 24-point margin. He shot 9-of-13 in 28 minutes.

With McNeese leading by three with 6:48 to play in the first half, Lamar went on a 12-2 run and finished with the final seven points to claim a 32-25 lead at the half.

Lamar (11-8, 5-1 Southland) shot 49 percent from the floor and turned 19 offensive rebounds into a 22-13 edge in second-chance points. Darren Hopkins finished with 16 points and eight boards, Matthew Barrow and Currye Todd each made three 3-pointers to tally 15 and 11 respectively.

McNeese State (8-9, 2-4 Southland) was led by Jarvis Bradley's 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting. John Pichon finished with 13 points, while Kleon Penn led the Cowboys with nine rebounds, three blocks and 12 points. The Cowboys shot 46 percent but were 1-of-11 from outside for 9.1 percent/

The Cardinals extended their winning streak to four and eight at home while playing before 5,418 fans - which is the most-attended game in a Southland area this season.

Lamar will travel to Nicholls State on Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Stopher Gymnasium before returning home on Saturday to play host to Southeastern Louisiana at 7:05 p.m.
