Predictions: DISTRICT MVP's

District 24A MVP - Tyler Copeland

I know that it's sort of an unwritten rule that the District MVP come from the District Championship team; however, this has got to be a no-brainer exception to the rule. Averaging over 30 ppg and around 10 rebounds per game, not to mention makes his team competitive with the opponent almost every night. This MVP award will look nice next to his '06 Newcomer of the Year award, and his '07 Offensive MVP award. I'm not saying this vote will be unanimous (although I think it should be) because McKinney (BS) and Elliot (HD) will probably get a vote. Just my thoughts.

I agree With u Coach Fuller I think Tyler is a great athlete. I think he deserves it. He has carried the Oilers to many victories!!!!! He has a great ppg average and he is very competitive like you said.

First let me start by saying that I am not a copeland hater.I think this young man is a great basketball player. But the no-brainer rule dont fly with me,he has led his team to some victories but not against the teams that matter. The MVP,IMOP Helps his team over the hump, being a so so team or a play off team. You take away mckinney, or elliot, or the one, no one is talking about "Phillip Whittaker" then these teams would be just like Tyler and the oilers. Just beaten the Evadales, Sp, and HI.And to me Elliot is not the MVP of his team, the other guard for HD I think his name is Adrian is the best HD has got.SO----SO---- are play offs. YOU MAKE THE CALL 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

i agree winning the district does get you some pull but all WH has is Copeland and Hashaw. if you take mickenny off of BS they would still probably win the district. and same with whitticker and elliot those would still be playoff teams without them but if you take copeland off of WH the only team they would beat was maybe HI and thats a big maybe. so if i had a vote it would be for copeland or Mickenny.

Gotta disagree with ya about Spurger.Without Whittacre they aren't a playoff team, everything they do goes thru the post. They have some good shooters but wouldn't be consistent without him.The same can be said about McKinney from BS.Tyler has some great stats and is a good player but on the team he is on this year the stats are misleading, he simply has to score or the Oilers don't score at all thus raising his average. The MVP in this ditrict should be the big guy off the district champ(whoever that is).Tyler should be the offensive player of the year.

In 24AA you gotta look at Tramain. He sacrificed his stats early to make his teamates better and has shown his old scoring ability recently when the Bucs had to have it.I haven't seen all Kountzes stats but if they are co champs you could make a case for co MVP with either Roman or Devin and Tramain.Marsh was the defensive player of the year last year and probably could be again(he is playing out of position at the top of the defense in my opinion).

In response to courtside and whsalum regarding 24A MVP... first of all let me be clear when I say I respect your opinion. You're entitled to one, and your takes are valid. However, let me give you another way to perhaps look at this. Let's flip things around for a second. Let take Elliot, Anderson, McKinney, or Whittaker out of their current line-up and replace them with Copeland. Likewise do the same and plug any one of them into WH's current line-up in place of Copeland. What do you have now? In my opinion Copeland makes every one of those teams better, while on the other hand I don't see any one of them being able to do with that team (WH) what Tyler has done. Neither Elliot, nor Anderson (who are good players) could put up 32 ppg and 10 rebs per game if they replaced Tyler on WH's current team. They aren't as good of scores as Tyler and they definitely aren't as big or as strong to pull down the 10 boards per game. Likewise, if you plugged Whittaker or McKinney in WH's current line-up, they would probably pull down the same number of boards, but could never match his scoring due to the fact that they aren't as good of scorers as Tyler, and they would be depending on WH's other guards getting them the ball. And don't think for one second any one of those coaches (although they would never admit it, AND SHOULDN'T) wouldn't swap any one of their players I listed above for Copeland. A very well respected coach told me last year that the second best player in that district behind Letsinger was Copeland, and I think he was right. Again, please understand I'm not hating on any of the players I mentioned above. I had to game plan on how to slow these players down the past two years because they are good players. I'm just reinforcing my case for Copeland as I give you another way to look at it. But like CATMAN said, in the end none of us have a vote in it anyways. Congrats to whoever wins.

I totaly agree with you coach on everything you said. I think Copeland is the best player in the district. But as you and CATMAN said none of us can vote. I mean Elliot and McKinney are great players but none can equal up to the points that Copeland can make. Congrats to Whoever wins.

Coach Fuller I also respect your opinion and remember that I am not downing any player mentioned on this thread. Even though Tyler is a pretty big kid IMO you couldn't trade for McKinney or Whittaker because he is not a post player. No way he could play down low as well as this two guys.As for making his team and team mates better I dont see that for the oiler's. I mean all you see and hear is Tyler's score. Not that he created open looks for another player or that he scored 40 and beat a BS,Spurger, or a HD. I can not speak for McKinney but Whittaker does this almost every game.Whittaker's team mates that is on the floor with him become better players, score more and win the tough games because of him.I haven't seen stats on Spurger in a few games, but I wouldn't be scared to say Whittaker reb. avg. is higher than 10 a game and probably some where around 18 to 20 points a game.True no body in our district is going to score like Tyler, but in my opinion that has its on category "off. MVP". Again ,my opinion the top scoring guard in the district does not translate in to MVP.Your team has to better and win the tough games because of you.ย

Coach Fuller I guess we will just have to disagree on this one.I think McKinney,Elliott or Whittacre would all average close to 30 on the Oiler club because they would get all the looks.I am a big Copeland fan but the fact is he hasn't led WH to tons of victories this year. They are 4/9 in district with wins over powers like High Island and Evadale.I will give Tyler credit for being the best offensive player in the district and one of the best 3 point shooters around. That just doesnt translate into the district MVP in my opinion.I will say it again however,I watched him play all summer with the Elite club and he could play on my team anyday.
