From Bob West:

It didn’t take long for a most intriguing name to surface for the Lamar University football job. Former Cardinal coach Larry Kennan, who is executive director of the NFL Coaches Association, has told the Port Arthur News he is interested in talking to athletic director Billy Tubbs about the position. The 63-year-old Kennan, you may remember, coached at Lamar from 1979-81 — the same time frame as when Tubbs was putting the Cardinals on the national basketball map — and was responsible for an 18-17 shocker over Baylor in 1981 that was the most significant victory in school history. Kennan went on to become quarterbacks coach or offensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. He also led the London Monarchs to the first championship in the World League of American Football in 1991 . . . Another experienced and familiar coach who is expected to go after the Lamar job is former Hamshire-Fannett quarterback Les Koenning, Jr. Koenning, who was Dennis Franchione’s offensive coordinator at Texas A&M and Alabama, has also coached at TCU, the University of Houston, Duke, Rice and Mississippi State, and spent the 1997 season with Jimmy Johnson as a Miami Dolphins offensive assistant. Koenning’s dad, Les, Sr., made a name for himself in these parts coaching at Hamshire-Fannett and had a highly successful tenure as head coach at Spring Branch Memorial.

Les Koenning Jr.?  He was a finalist for the UH job but he doesn't have any head-coaching experience.  It's way too early to start speculating.

He has a very impressive resume'. Played at UT, OC at A&M and coached at several other high majors including Alabama. He has local ties and is a strong recruiter.

Now, having stated the above information I think it is only normal to speculate but is way too early in the process to start naming front runners for the position.
