Will Nederland make the playoffs in the next few years?

Everyone wants to know if Nederland will make the playoffs next year or any coming years. The have a nice squad they just have to work together. What's your opinion?

The whole district is getting more competitive.  Ozen and Central were head and shoulders above everybody else this season, but the rest of the district was relatively close.  The playoffs next season may depend on who works the hardest this off season.

Even though Nederland looked good at times this season, there are several other "upstarts" in the district that will make it tough on the dogs to next year.

Okay slam i understand what you are saying but have you been to any of Nederland's games? The have four returning seniors and hopefully the coach will move up three good players next year. He had two players on junior varsity that I hear were freshman. If they were, they could help his team. And for the other player who was a sophmore she can contrbute to the team as well. Nederland should have a great season these next few years.

Yes, Ive seen Nederland play several times this season and know what they have to offer.  They were not consistent in their play throughout district.  They have some fine athletes, but no team will make the playoffs in this district without consistency.  I will stand by my original post and say they could possibly make the playoffs next season, but I don't see them as a frontrunner.

Nederland JV was impressive this year. It will be tough for them. With the likes of Central, Ozen and Lumberton it will be a up hill climb. I hope they do make the playoffs because I always pull for the underdogs. Yes they are underdogs until futher notice. Nederland still lacks in fundamentals. When they correct that problem, they will be a force to be reckon with. That is a big "if". It starts with Little Dribbler's.

Nederland's JV was sound, but there has to be ONE class that breaks through to create enough community interest in girls basketball so that younger girls flock to a little dribblers program.  If you're waiting on fundementals from a little dribblers program outside of Orangefield or Lumberton then you're still "several" years away from seeing results.

I see a dark horse on the rise, but I'm not convinced it's Nederland.

Until Nederland and PNG promote all girls sports nothing will change. They have the talent but they are volleyball and softball. The same is with Bridge City and LCM. I look at the tall girls playing volleyball and I wonder why they are not playing basketball? A athlete is an athlete, they can play both. Why don't they?  I don't understand. The girls at Orangefield pretty much play everything. We might not excel at everything but we do compete.

I don't consider LCM a dark horses because they have tradition in basketball.

You're right...maybe "dark horse" is not an accurate term.  LCM girls basketball does have a storied past, but has been quite for the past several years.  Hopefully this next season is the year they get back on track.  They had a great second half in district and will graduate only one senior from this years team.

If Coach Ellerbee pushes the Lady Bears to prepare in the off season the "W" column could escalate nicely next season.
