The Babe made his Major League debut ON THIS DATE (July 11th) IN BASEBALL HISTORY

JULY 11, 1914

In his Major League debut, Boston Red Sox lefty Babe Ruth earns a victory against the Cleveland Naps at Fenway Park. With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ruth is lifted for pinch hitter Duffy Lewis, who singles & later scores the eventual winning run. Reliever Dutch Leonard strikes out four of the six Cleveland batters he faces to preserve the 4-3 Red Sox victory.

JULY 11, 1955

In the 1955 Cotton States League All-Star Game, three pitchers on the All-Stars roster: Bill Drummond (Monroe Sports), Bob Shipman (Monroe Sports) & Bob Wiltse (Greenville Bucks) combine to no-hit the host El Dorado Oilers, 2-0.

JULY 11, 1976

In a promotion dubbed “Headlocks & Wedlocksâ€, 34 couples are married at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium’s home plate. Afterwards, the field hosts a championship wrestling event. In between, the Braves defeat the New York Mets, 9-8.

JULY 11, 1978

Dunedin Blue Jays righthander Luis Leal no-hits the Tampa Tarpons in a Florida State League (Class A) contest, 2-0.

JULY 11, 1984

Moose Clabaugh, who hit 62 home runs as a member of the 1926 Tyler Trojans, passes away in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 82. Claubaugh appeared in 11 Major League games (primarily as a pinch hitter), all with the 1926 Brooklyn Robins, batting .071 (1-for-14).
