Guest DickVitale Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 OK, yesterday we tapped into HJ, today lets hit the triangle!! WHO YA GOT? Boutte's 1995 4A State Champion Bumblebees (35-3) featuring Stephen Jackson vs. his 2001 4A State Champion Ozen squad (36-0) featuring Kendrick Perkins... Trust me guys, I am going somewhere with these threads, just watch!! ...LET THE DEBATING BEGIN!!
shorttexas1 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Ok me first... That Lincoln team had two 6'7" guys starting and one of them was stevie and the other was Keith Harris.. This was an atheletic front court and that could also handle the ball... Then there were a bunch of dribbling shooting guards like 6'2" Spencer Comeuax and 5' 11" Dominic Hardy... And good Bench Guards.. Ozen was BIG and athletic with two 6'7" players in Dabney and Keena, with the great equalizer in the middle 6'10" Perk.... 6'2" Tigee and 5'11" Mike rounded out a group with a decent bench... That included top fleet shooter Albert Marshall! I think Keith would have been bottled up by that big strong Middle of Ozen and Stevie would have been well guarded by a combo of Dab and Keena... Stevie would have still hit 20 with 10 rebs and 7 assist but on a pour shooting night... Spencer would have caught fire on Tigee and went for 15... Quick Drives by Dominic keeps Lincoln close. Foul trouble forces Lincoln to play 6'8" big Chris James but he wasn't ready for the big boys... But the inativity of spencer would be a downfall... Keena would finish with 15 and 10, Perk with 25 and 12 with 5 blocks and Mike would hold his on with six assist as the Ozen Panthers win 65 to 57.....
Guest DickVitale Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Nice shortt..very nice, but let me fix up a few things here for you...For Lincoln, Comeaux was the 5'11 PG not Hardie...Hardie was about 6'3, and actually ended up being named MVP of the state tourney that year...The other 5'11 guard you were thinking of was Sidney Keal (Dip)...as for Ozen, Dabney did NOT start for us that year...It was Mike Thomas and ALBERT MARSHALL at the guards, and THEY were key for us...Tigee was a perfect role wing guard, that knew what to do, and of course, we rounded the lineup out with KT and Perk...Dabney came off the bench along with Brandon Chappell (#15), Reginald Tyrell (#5), Jason Breckenridge (#24), Desmond Cooper (#20), Wes Bryant (#31), Javin Clover (#14), and Brandon Rideau (#21)....Plus James Wilson (#12) AND Allen James (#42)..( I added the numbers for you guys reference, FYI)..Now THAT was a DEEP team! Very deep!! It would have made a HUGE difference in this matchup..
Guest baseball25 Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Athletic wise Ozen by far, they just had to many good players and then you have big perk dog in the middle. I say ozen by 15. Toooooooo many good athletes on that team. I should know played against them in 2000 and 2001. Great coaches and great players...

Javin too I remember Dez playing for me in AAU and I was wondering what could I do to get this kid to play up to his potential... I pushed him, was hard on him, and talked to him but he just would not get it... He was just too silly!
Guest orangeman Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 I'll go with '95 Lincoln. I don't have near the background knowledge on this match-up that some of you do so I won't pretend. I just remember watching this team play back in '95 and they were very good. Nothing like being in the bee hive as a visitor for the 1st time. Old dark gym with windows painted over. Old wooden bleachers, old slick leather basketballs, a home crowd that literally danced their way through the game with every Harris or Jackson dunk, an outstanding product on the floor, and all of this surrounded by banner after banner after banner after... well you get my point. I was instructed to "use the buddy system" if I decided to wander around that night. How funny is that. Anyways... PA Lincoln.
Guest DickVitale Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 You know, on that 95 Lincoln squad, the PG Spencer "Scooby" Comeaux (#22) was quite possibly the most UNDERRATED player that this area has ever seen!..He could REALLY handle the rock!! He was a floor general who could knock down the three, made great plays...Kinda like a poor man's DJ Augustin...But left handed..He could play!! That beehive was a beast!!
