Cardinal Fans in the Montagne.

After watching the HJ/Silsbee game in the Montagne last night it really makes me realize how pathetic the LU student section is.  The Hawk Hecklers were incredible.  They took up the entire section where the band usually is and they were rocking the Montagne last night.  Maybe for the next LU home game LU can contact the Hawk Hecklers agent and see about giving them 150-200 tickets FREE and they can come in and show the LU students how to do it. ;D

That sounds like a GREAT idea.  Who says they can't root for LU too?  I hope they show up in LU shirts and show those boring college students how to have a little fun at a game.

lamar needs it! one game they had a few wanna be hecklers who even chanted "take his whistle" a few times.. but that was one of the nights they were competeing for thier certain fraternity/sororities.

anywho, i think roc would REALLY appreciate the hecklers coming out for the few home games we have left.. he keeps insisting on more people coming.. and a i know a few people who would like to go just because the atmosphere is so much better when the hecklers are in the house! ;)

the cards are actually pretty good, impressing me! what do ya say, hecklers??!

[[cardinals are sort of like hawks.. right?]]

I think the Cards can get 8,000 on the night, i hope they double up the band like they did last year and bring in alumni to sing the national anthem. It gets them and their families to Lamar for the game.

8 games.

Maybe more season ticket holders need to show up. I've been to a couple of games and have to get a seat way up there, and when I look down towards the bottom, I see alot of vacant seats. If your not going to a game and your a season ticket holder get on here and give them away so people will show up for you. College sports in this area doesn't bring many folks to the game, start scheduling big name people and they will come.

I totally agree with you on the season ticket holders as well.  I love how 1/2 the parking lot is empty because of the season ticket holders AND their reserved parking NOT showing up to the game.  I don't know who decides how much of the parking lot to reserve but it should be about 1/4th of the amount they currently reserve.

As far as big name colleges.  I GUARANTEE you that Roc would schedule a home and home game any day of the week with Texas or ATM or even Duke or North Carolina.  Possibly even a Big East school like Georgetown or Connecticutt but they wouldn't do it.  For starters they don't have anything to gain.  Secondly, the last Big East team that came here was Villanova the year after they won the national championship.  We beat them by around 20 points so those Big East schools are too scared to come here.  ATM and Texas have had the nads to come here in the past but they want us to schedule 2 games at their place to one at ours.  After the way we've played as of late they probably don't want to come here and play.  We would probably have to schedule 3 games at their place to one game at ours.  The bottom line is that UT, ATM, Duke, NC, etc are a bunch of prima donna woosies that are too scared to come play here.  And I would venture to say that there is NO WAY on earth that a Texas Tech or OU would come here because we could definitely beat them.

Stupid SLC rule, they have the fan's of the visiting team mandated to sit in those seats behind their bench. If you remember back to the days of the L-Raisers, we all sit behind the visitors bench and gave them, well you know what.

Can't sit behind the visiting bench...

This was posted on another thread...

Talk about a lot of fond memories in that building.

I was channel 4's fan of the year (86/87).

I wore my dad's old Texaco hard hat (painted with red LU lettering), wore a nerf hoop cardboard backboard around my chest, and had a red and white checkerboard flag.  During time outs they let me go up and down the aisles throwing my nerf ball to fans and having them shoot at my nerfhoop basket.  During halftime they let me down on the floor.  Talk about a lot of fun that year.  We used to camp out for tickets to sit right behind the visiting team bench.  We kept it clean, but talk about throwing insults at the opposing team for the whole game.  I believe I gave Karl Malone a complex (which might explain his art at flopping).

From what it sounds like this kind of student involvement is lacking at LU.

I still have the hard hat, might be time this 15+ year graduate goes back and shows the kids how to be a REAL Lamar basketball fan!

I remember one year at McNeese, a section of seats right behind the Lamar bench were empty.  We got our tickets with the Lamar fans in a section just behind this section.  A few Lamar fans tried to sit in that section and was run off, being told they were reserved for Cowboy Club members. Now nobody was sitting in the section at the start of the game, another Lamar fan family tried to sit in the section, not knowing.... and they were run off.  Before they got out of the area a large group of McNeese students sitting off to the side in some bad seats, all a once rushed over and filled that section right behind the Lamar bench.  They were carrying on.. and told us that after 5 minuted into the game the section is open to anyone.

There may have been a situation arise out of that because the then AD Billick was called from his seat to deal with something.

I don't like that when you have families involved with children.

I think we treat visiting fans with a lot of respect as oppose to SFA, McNeese and a others.  I don't see us delegating them to the crows nest like at SFA and not allowing movement after the game starts.

Great post. If it takes going on the road to prove that LU's legit, then that's what they'll have to do. If Gonzaga can do it, why can't LU?
