The Lamar State College-Port Arthur women’s softball team will play open conference play Tuesday with a doubleheader at Galveston College.

Both teams were scheduled to play in last weekend’s Cowtown Invitational Tournament, which was canceled before it started because of heavy storms expected in the area.

Lamar State (1-6) opened the spring with a split at home against Temple College, the North Texas Junior College Athletic Association championship for the past four years.

The Seahawks had less luck at the Feb. 8-9 Galveston College Invitational Tournament, where they dropped single games to LSU-Eunice, Cisco Junior College, Seminole State College, UH-Victoria and McClennan Community College.

Galveston, currently 6-3, finished first in Region XIV in 2007 with a record of 44-10 overall and 24-3 in conference play. The Whitecaps were ranked No. 11 in the nation at the end of the season.

The Seahawks open Region XIV competition March 2 at Blinn College.

Lamar State’s first home conference date is March 7 against Galveston College.
