Guest abovetherim Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Here is the issue, next year the basketball schedule of the SLC will change from Thursday-Saturday to Wednesday-Saturday and apparently Billy Tubbs is one of those pushing the issue. Well as I mentioned before, my brother is a pastor in Orange and I'm sure the attendance will be effected by those who attend church on Wednesday nights being unable to attend. This current schedule is hard on the student-athlete because they may play Thurday night in Beaumont and Saturday afternoon in San Marcos. (Just taking last week's schedule for example) Then Monday would be terrible for the SLC because early there in the NFL games and the majority of bigtime conferences play on Monday's. So do you want to compete with those schools for media coverage??? Not me. Tuesday-Saturday, there would be student-athletes missing too much class time. Traveling on Monday and Friday with games on Tuesday and Saturday. I don't see the improvement except the heavy church base here in SE Texas. More SE Texans who are regularly attend church on Wednesday's could attend Tuesday night games. Now the argument I find ridiculous is student-athletes missing too much class time. I guess they all agree on keeping FBS without a playoff for the same reason. I know Lamar has tutors that travels with the team. They get more one on one instruction than I do. Heck, I wish Lamar would send a tutor to by home for chemistry. I'm sure BT doesn't want to go against locate HS teams in scheduling. Aren't most HS basketball games on Tuesday and Friday night? So if there is going to be a change the only logical choice IMO is Wednesday (remember my family is very devout in their faith and will not make a Wednesday game). Heck, my brother still had church on Super Bowl Sunday night! KFDM COOP Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 What's everyone's Opinions on this?
Guest abovetherim Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Agree, I'd like to hear some educated opinions. Obviously Tuesday night with all a great HS basketball is out. Although, the majority of my relatives will not attend a Wednesday night game I believe it is best for Lamar University. Honestly, don't care what the rest of the SLC thinks except it is fun to debate.
