Guest mffl Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 ESPN Bubble Watch Stephen F. Austin [18-3 (10-2), RPI: 44, SOS: 242] The Jacks are back for a look with their spiffy new top-50 RPI. That said, there are several issues: SFA has four non-DI wins as part of its profile and the Jacks are not even in first place in the Southland. They beat Lamar in the teams' only meeting, but the Cardinals, at 11-1, are still a game ahead. The last four league games are against teams that are .500 or worse in league play, so SFA could be 24-4 in D-I games should it lose in the Southland final. Would that be enough? Probably not, but a win at Oklahoma shows that this team is pretty decent.
TexasTerror Posted February 25, 2008 Report Posted February 25, 2008 It's been great seeing the Southland Conference continue to get recognition this late in the season. It was nice earlier in the year seeing Sam Houston State get their fair shake, but this is the first time we've seen coverage outside of the recent success (NWST) in the NCAA tournament. I do not think SFA can get an at-large unless they win out and lose in the SLC tournament final, but even then -- it'd be a stretch. An NIT berth is more likely than anything and I really think they can make some noise. SFA @ the Univ of Houston anyone?
