Guest bulldogbark Posted July 14, 2006 Report Posted July 14, 2006 Junior Olympians JUSTIN PARSONS AND TAYLOR HART represented Jasper in the USA Junior Olympic baseball championships with the Houston Heat. The Heat played June 22-July 1 in Pheonix,Arizona and the team placed fifth out of 72 teams. Both were members of this year's Jasper Bulldog varsity baseball squad as well. Parsons was a starting pitcher for the team while Hart played shortstop for the Bulldogs. Booth will be back for the Bulldogs this year on their District title run
MIF04 Posted July 16, 2006 Report Posted July 16, 2006 Congrats to those two for a good run in the USA Jr. Olympics. A 5th place finish is an outstanding result. On a related note, the area has had a USA Jr. Olympics champion -- the SE Texas Sun Devils won that championship 2 years ago (probably the biggest/most prestigious tournament in the age group). That team was made up of all local players: Tim Ferguson (Bmt. WB) Mark Serna (Bmt. WB) David Murphy (Bmt. WB) Bobby Armstrong (Bmt. WB) Clayton Ehlert (LCM) Wes Schneider (LCM) Jake Rowell (LCM) Blake Buchanan (PNG) Branden Powell (PNG) Jacob Walker (PNG) Zach Harwood (PNG) Kris Hearn (PNG) Cody Mire (PNG) Johnny Dishon (BC) Broc Haymon (BC) Kevin Angelle (BC) Rocky Calhoun (Silsbee) Nick Ayers (WOS) To my knowledge, that was the only Texas team to ever win the event. One heckuva team....
