Are you kidding me that they don't do a better job of recruiting local kids?  KK Little busted practically every record at OF and Lamar hasn't even bothered to talk to her.  Same went with the last few years of kids from the area.  They talked to Brittany James from WOS one time and gave up because they felt like she wouldn't come there.  Then she goes to a school of about Lamar's size a long way from her family.  To my knowledge they never talked to Brittany Scott, and she is one of the hardest working kids I have ever seen.  U of H is happy about that.  And before anyone goes to telling me that the local kids can't compete with the kids that are currently under scholarship from Lamar, I will say this.  The last time Lamar was really good they had a roster that boasted mostly local kids.  Unbelievable.....

I agree 100 percent!  Can you imagine if they got the local talent around here how good they would be?  But no lets go to Spain or somewhere else over seas and get players!  I don't want to watch a team that passes up so much talent around here. I was thinking with Ancelot there she'd try to get some, hopefully I'm not going to be disappointed.

I coached an AAU team a couple of years ago that many of the better players from SE Texas on it.  We went to the National Tournaments in Atlanta, Memphis, etc. and had top five finishes in them.  That team of High School girls would have beaten the Lamar kids at the time, but Lamar is brain dead.  I agree, I would 100% rather watch local kids play than a bunch of foreign kids, or kids from California, etc.

Here are just a few girls that I thought could have HELPED Lamar over the last few years...

The girl from Kountze, Gabe, Myers, the Sanders sisters, KK, of Orangefield, the Britneys of WOS, the Kirbyville girl of last year Kullum, Fowler of Silsbee. These were ALL passed up and other colleges snatched them up. 

Ang Green is the only one around here that they got.

I agree that more local girls should at least be talked to. But we got to admit they got twice as many as they got last year and the team was not very good the previous 5 years. Coachs have a mold for players and they don't always look at talent or success. A lot of girls get pasted over because they don't fit the mold. Unfortunate but true. I truly hope Lamar improves but they could use some local talent and fans.

I will say this, Lamar invited my daughter over to the campus to show her around and discuss her playing.  It was under the previous coaching staff, but I can say if this guy was a recruiter then I am a rocket scientist.  His whole attitude was, "well if you wanna settle for Lamar" blah blah blah.....

To be perfectly fair, which I try to do no matter what some people think, Yoshika and Gabriel probably had a lot more opportunities somewhere else.  I mean, Gabriel went to UT.  Yoshika was offered a full ride by LU.  However, several girls who would have made a significant impact for LU (and by the way drawn a good crowd) were not even given the benefit of a phone call by LU.

I hate to kill my Karma here but I gotta put my 2 cents in.Some of you are recruiting with your heart and not your head.The current Lamar coach has a rep of being one the best in the business at recruiting.While it's great to give the local kids there props there simply isn't a wealth of D1 players in this area.You are certainly right about Coach A knowing all the local talent,that should tell you something.Spears was a legit project but she needed some work at the position she was going to play in college.She got that work and has turned into a very solid player who can now go on and play D1 ball.Gabriel I don't think is anywhere near the UT campus any longer.Some of these girls will be able to play college ball at the Juco level but if LU wants to put a legitimate contender on the floor they better go to Spain or California or wherever the absolute best players are,thats what everyone else is doing.The difference between a good high school player and a legitimate D1 prospect is night and day.

You make my point for me Bobcat05.These were some very good high school players and the young lady from HF had to be a great student,not many people get offers from Rice.But how many on this list could be impact players at the D1 level.If you want to be successful you have a limited number of scholarships you have to give to players that can elevate your program.Coach Tidwell has watched a lot of the high school girls in Southeast Texas and promotes the area schools every chance he gets.It will take him a few years to get his stamp on the program but when he does it will be fun to watch.Scott from WOS could have contributed but I think she was already sold on U of H before Tidwell got settled in.

Good post, whsalum.  We seem to have a lot of AAU coaches that are feeling threatened or inadequate or whatever that are really lighting up all the boards.

Also I heard Ancelot had to work on Tidwell for Ang Green, good thing Lamar got her because she could have went anywhere.

Puzzles me how everyone over in Orangefield hears all these things and no one else does.

I've seen KK play over the past two years.  She is a great shooter.  She plays in you face defense.  And to me, she seems to have that "Intangible" - it can't be defined exactly or even be identified.  That's why it's intangible.  But it is in her heart that she is never BEAT!  And she can raise her team up to that level, too.  If I were coaching on any college level and had seen KK 4 or 5 times, I'd take her in a heartbeat on my squad.

KK get recruited by Lamar...???? Are you serious??? Maybe she should work on her left handed layups first, haha.

I can promise you she has made many layups in her career left and right. Atleast she shoots with her left hand. Many do not. :P

ok, I have to ask. If Lamar is overlooking KK and blowing it by not recruiting her, what other schools D-1 or otherwise are recruiting her?

Seems like Coach Ancelot would be familiar with her capabilities
