Bucof2010 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 I think its clear that SE Texas doesn't care to have a hockey team. Ford Arena is small and how many hockey games have you'll been to that it had a decent crowd? I've never seen it with 1,000 people for a hockey game.
NedDog Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 The Catters had 4500+ fans last Saturday night - and that was when 8500+ fans were in the Montange Center for LU's homecoming game. Believe it or not, there are many diehard hockey fans in this area and many more casual hockey fans. Having a hockey team in Ford Arena can only do good things for SETX in general & Ford Park in particular.
Tiger90 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 What else would they do with the facility with no hockey or other team? They already are discussing tearing down the amphitheater, which is idiotic. The county may be still upset with the whole Ford Park fiasco, but it is there and has to be paid for. The area has to support whatever team plays there.
Bucof2010 Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 Is there not a semi pro basketball league? I've never heard of 1 but maybe you'll have I'm sure many people would support a basketball team.
NedDog Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 I am not aware of any semi-pro basketball team in the area. The Beaumont Drillers (indoor football) call Ford Arena home, but that is only 7 home games compared to the 36 or so, home games that the Wildcatters have had for the last 5 years. Tiger90 is absolutely right - we have to support whatever is there in order for the facility to be a success.
