The Lamar State College-Port Arthur women’s softball team returns to conference play Sunday in a noon doubleheader at Blinn College in Brenham.

Lamar State is 1-8 overall and 0-2 in Region XIV after opening the season at home with a split with Temple College, the North Texas Junior College Athletic Association champion for the past four years.

Since then, the Seahawks lost single games to LSU-Eunice, Cisco Junior College, Seminole State College, UH-Victoria and McClennan Community College.

Lamar State opened its conference schedule Feb. 19, with 14-0 and 10-2 losses at Galveston College, the No. 11 team in the nation in 2007.

Blinn (10-3) opens its Region XIV schedule Saturday with a home doubleheader against Alvin Community College (9-13). The Lady Buccaneers are on a five-game winning streak.

Blinn went 22-34 overall and 22-15 in Region XIV last year, finishing seventh in the 11-team conference.

Lamar State’s first home conference date is March 7 against Galveston College.
