The next day, Roger Clemens, the other Yankee free agent signee, wins his debut in a 15-8 clubbing of the Pirates. 1993 - Free agent pitcher Doug Drabek tosses two shutout innings in a 3-2 win over the Dodgers. It is Drabek's first start with Houston after a career in Pittsburgh that included a Cy Young Award and three division crowns. 1989 - After blowing late leads in each of their first three spring games, the Astros score four in the bottom of the ninth to steal a 5-4 victory over Kansas City for the first win in Art Howe's managerial career. His boys are awesome athletes. I remember knowing the day before that we were playing them so my youngest son had a baseball card of Doug Drabek that I was going to ask him to sign. My boy was probably 7 or 8 years old and when I saw Doug by the concession stand I told my boy to come with me and we'll ask him to autograph it. Well about the time I was right in front of him I notice that my son hadn't moved a step from where he was, he was scared to death. Anyway I asked Doug if he would sign the card that I had for him and he said sure. A very nice guy, he signed it and held it out untill my son came over to get it from him. I'll never forget it.
