TexasTerror Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 From David Barron's column in the Houston Chronicle... Marc Vandermeer lined up air time and sponsors for the Southland Conference men's basketball tournament final, which will air at noon March 16, on KIKK (650 AM). He will call the game with Robert Henslee.
JMay Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Shouldn't it also be on Fox-SW? I also think you can watch the tournament on www.cstv.com through the "Southland Channel" I don't know if its free or not.
JMay Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 The game will be on ESPN2. Sweet!!! Lets hope for HD as well. ;D
UNLV Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Over at katfans, they are pulling for SELA to beat us. They think the Nation wants to see the southland conference 3rd seed over the 1st and 2nd seeds. Talking about exaggerating or disposed to exaggerate one's own worth or importance often by an overbearing manner.
lu cards Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 to have the best crowd sunday lamar needs to make the final.a sam vs sfa final would be close but lamar travels the best.i really like the format where the top seed hosts the game.neutral site is ok but only if they keep it in houston.

Its a shame the higher seed format isn't in effect here. ;D

I also think you can watch the tournament on www.cstv.com through the "Southland Channel" I don't know if its free or not. Women's game is on FoxSW. Men's on ESPN2 as someone noted. Game will not be on CSTV or any of their affiliates. The Southland Conference is not partnered with them any longer as far as the Internet broadcasting goes. It'll be on Southland.TV, which is the SLC's entity through JumpTV Sports and can be purchased through the conference's web site.

Problem is, the "top seed hosting" format does not work in some SLC cities. The game looks really good on TV in some, not so good in others. The conference is trying to build up a neutral site tournament. We'll see how long this lasts, but keep in mind, the lasting image that many get of the SLC is this one game a year that is nationally televised.
Guest coachacola Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 I like having a neutral site also, and at least for the teams from Texas it's a neutral location with the potential to draw well. It's the Louisiana schools (and UCA) that are furtherest away, but none of them draw fans anyway. This year with LU, SHSU and SFA being the favorites, there should be a good crowd for the finals on Sunday. The Merrill Center should look good on TV, although it's a little small there's a good chance it'll be pretty full next Sunday.
TexasTerror Posted March 7, 2008 Author Report Posted March 7, 2008 Someone posted on KatFans.com that Corpus Christi has been awarded the 2009 Southland Conference tournament. I know they had the conference meetings a few weeks ago. Before anyone starts calling the conference names and such, let's confirm this. I see nothing on the SLC web site regarding next year's championships...
Guest coachacola Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 I saw that on katfans too. It's not very neutral but if they offered the SLC a good deal then I bet they'd take it. I like Corpus, I go there a lot, but I don't see the tourney drawing well unless their team is in it. They barely had anyone at the game against us last week because their team isn't winning. But it's a nice arena and it's on the beach so who knows.
JMay Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 They have a brand new arena that seats 8,000, maybe the conference wants to show it off. Corpus could be a fun place to spend a "March Madness" weekend.

Unless you feel Sam Houston will be down next year, just like the Lady kats. 0-15..

Guest abovetherim Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 City owned facility. Think if Lamar University, Jefferson County and the City of Beaumont built a football stadium? Now, that would be awesome.
Guest BreakerCoach Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 City owned facility. Think if Lamar University, Jefferson County and the City of Beaumont built a football stadium? Now, that would be awesome. Some of them did Ford Park ! ;D

Some of them did Ford Park ! ;D No city, no Lamar involved in Ford park. Just like no city involved in the SETX airport and you see how the county ran that into the ground.

Not saying I was against it because I was in Fort Worth when it was completed but there wasn't a vote to fund the facility to my knowledge. If that is true, bad move.

I don't remember voting on anything involving Ford Park. We probably shouldn't bring that up on this board though. > ;D
weslinder Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 While I'd certainly prefer the SLC Tournament to be kept as close to Beaumont as possible, they might get more out of me by having it in Corpus. I'd probably go to more games that did not feature Lamar if they had it in Corpus.
JMay Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 While I'd certainly prefer the SLC Tournament to be kept as close to Beaumont as possible, they might get more out of me by having it in Corpus. I'd probably go to more games that did not feature Lamar if they had it in Corpus. If it was close and I was still a student I'd be there anyway. Thats what your supposed to do as students. I remember several trips in Conference Tournaments when I was a student. I actually don't think I missed any. Perhaps Ruckdad can help me since he was there. I made it to Little Rock, Lafayette, and Shreveport twice. Probably the best trips I can remember, its truly gets you in to March Madness, and God help everyone if you when a game or two in a conference tourney, then you start to "believe" you have a chance to crash the party, then eventually you do crash the party and celebrate on the floor with the team, student, and anyone that can put up with you. Sorry I'm flashing back to Shreveport and our last "trip" to the dance. ;D
AggiesAreWe Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 I like the Shreveport/Bossier City site. If your team loses, there's always the casinos to explore.
Guest abovetherim Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 God, I hate going to Shreveport. I lost $500.00 in about 10 minutes and spent the next several hours drinking (it wasn't coke) while my girlfriend at the time continued to play the slot machines. If we like to have it in a city with "casinos to explore" lets have the thing in Lake Charles a lot closer than Shreveport/Bossier City. ;D JMay, sorry if I offended you about Ford Park. I was just comparing Corpus Chrisit city owned facility to that in Beaumont. No offense intended to anyone, just wanted to clear that up.
WOS95 Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 i saw the merrell center on it's website, it is a very nice facility. is it owned by the katy isd or by the city of katy?
