Phillip_McCrevis83 Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 obivously there was some defense out there when bender was pitching...wouldve been kind of hard to throw a no hitter without it
RoundRock89 Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 I think the defense is here and better than ever. Particularly in pitching. Some of these 3A teams are 3-4 deep with above average pitchers.
ksagrl1 Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 I think you're lumping too many coaches into the group that doesn't concentrate on fundamentals. Not all coaches put defense by the wayside. You have to find a balance....you have to figure out a way to get the kids enough cuts to be successful at the plate and at the same time work on those defensive skills related to their positions. The challenge is to do this with three practices a week, at least three teams practicing, and making sure you stay within your UIL time allotment. I think there are some coaches who miss the mark, but to say that teams don't play defense anymore is a pretty broad statement. Cuz I watch my boys every Tuesday and Friday....and the majority of the time...they get the job DONE.
643 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 The coaches that ignore fundamentals are NOT HS coaches, as IMO they should not have to teach this, A HS player should bring good sound fundamentals, this sould be taught at home or in the Summer Leagues.
Guest Silsbee88 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Do not take anything away from the hitters.......There have and always will be certain positions in BB that are considered offensive positions and certain positions considered defensive positions. Look at MLB at the highest average paid positions and it most certainly is hitters.
