There was NOTHING ignorant about my statement, maybe your DB should look into something else and focus on graduation...How about that? There are things that are more important than playing football...Besides, he already will have a running start heading into the work force as it is, so just be glad about that...Good luck to you both.

That is a quote from DV.  That is the most racist comment I have heard on this board.  " a running head start into the work force. " WOW!

Number 1 - I have been told on more than one occasion on a job interview " I would like to hire you, but I have to hire a black."  So much for the running head start.

Number 2 - It appears that rules on racism only apply when they benefit that person.  You can't have it both ways.  I agree with the DB analogy (speed - get the job) but not (race - get the job)  The most qualified candidate, whatever race, should get the job.

Number 3 - There will always be racism-so what-get over it.  There are plenty of people of all races that are not raicsts.  Just be one of them.

Number 4 - Quit making excuses.  There are plenty of educated succesful black and white people benefiting from the American system.  It simple -get an education, follow the laws, demonstrate character and discipline, AND NOBODY CAN KEEP YOU DOWN. WHITE OR BLACK.

Number 5- DV referred to Katy as one of those school.  I am proud to say that in Katy ISD, white america,  educated floks with vision and direction-guess what - we have an awesome superintendent.  He has class, he is educated, demonstrates character, and oh yea...he is black and WE hired him and stand behind him because he is good.

Number 6 - Its about the human RACE BABYYYYY!! (SP)

Quit whining and crying and making excuses and get yours like thousands of others have already done.

setxbb, you have known me practically my entire life...I know that you do not think that I am a racist!! I agree with you 100%, but you have to realize that the thing about a running start suggest that in MOST areas, they will be looking at someone across that desk that looks like them. Could you have been the coach at Lincoln and done well? Of course you could have, but unfortunately there are some that believe because of race, they should hire a black coach there..wrong? absolutely, but how many times does that happen on the reverse side, yet they will NEVER say, "we are going to hire a white"? I would bet MOST schools that are not predominately black ..You are a person that I have looked up to and have respected since I was a kid, and you are white...It does not matter to me, yet, if I see it, I tend to call it.  You know what I have been through, and I am willing to bet that race was about 50% of the issue...Think about it..Maybe I AM bitter, but it is for good reason..

There is never a good reason to hold on to bitterness--it only gives power to others

Man, if you only knew....It would make you bitter FOR me!  :D...You never know a man's story, until you can walk a mile in his shoes..

No Dicky--I do not know your story and I am sorry if it was "my people" that hurt you---I can promise you that my story has its share of tragedy as do most people and I have forgiven those people and moved on------on a personal note things have changed--we are not perfect but things are definetly different and if you will allow me just one example--when I was a kid ALL of my friends were my color and black kids would never have spent the night at my house---the exact opposite has happened in one generation---at least 90 % of my kids friends are black and it has nothing to do with skin color----it is simply that those are the people that he plays basketball, football, and runs track with and these same kids practically and in one case literally live at my house-----so be bitter if you must

This is one he!! of a statement...  If I were you I would not want to work for that company anyway...  But if it weren't for "Affirmative Action" there would have hired you and the vast majority of people just like you and the company would be all white...  Of course they would because fact is everybody is more comfortable around people who look like them...  There are some special interacial relationships formed, and I have a few, but I am speaking in general!  That advangtage was a need because regardless of the qualifications Blacks were not given jobs before a white.  Same goes on now for Hispanics...  An in truth its no advantage because Affirmative action say you at least have to have a small percent of employees have to be a minority.  And that is usually all they try to meet is that small percent.

You must always learn from personal experiences or you will never grow..I had to learn a lesson the hard way, and trust me, I have grown tremendously from it...No matter how educated you are, NO one is immune from the trials and tribulations of life...There are certain things that I have learned, and quite frankly, have held on to concerning how others feel about me, for no particular reason other than my skin color..Not all, but most. Nothing personal, just stating that it is what it is..I HAVE BEEN THROUGH IT. Its no fun, I can tell you that.

This is obviously an emotional subject, and understandably so.  So many people of all color have been effected by racism.  I feel quite certain blacks have been more effected than whites generally speaking.  I am truly sorry that anyone has been hurt or damaged by racism.  It is by far our biggest hindrance to progress as a human race.   The only thing we can do as individuals is try to understand, as hard as that is, try to forgive, try to be more open to differences, and love our fellow man as the good book says.  If we can focus on the good things that happen between the races, I think we can all grow. I saw a picture once of a small white boy and a small black boy holding hands walking down the street.  They didn't know they were black and white.  They were friends, laughing and loving life.  That picture touched my heart.  And it reminded me of a valuable lesson.  Racism is learned. It is passed down generation to generation.  If we, as black and white adults, fail to find a way to celebrate our diversity, then how in the heck do we ever expect our kids to.    I have seen story's of white folks coming together and building homes for underprivileged black folks.  I have seen black folks taking in underprivileged white folks and providing love and support.  It can be done.  It has been done.  Just to few and far between.

I have known DV for a longtime.  He is good person, angered by life's experiences.  Some deserved, many not.  Perhaps people like myself, DV and others can step up and take a lead and begin a healing process with our young people.  What an awesome and admirable challenge.

I apologize for the sermon, but I needed that more than you.  To the human race, red, yellow, black and white, we are precious in his sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world.  Let's do it for them.

Allright..I am done.  DV....I know what you been thru. Keep on plugging.  You got what it takes.

That last post was funny but in all reality DV is right. I dont believe anyone has a hard life because EVERYONE has a hard life. I have always said "life isnt hard life is life." Before anyone says you have had it easy dont, because trust me I've had it bad but I'm not going to whine about what I've been through I'm going to learn from it and make the best of it what else can we do? We've gotta get ours no matter the cost. Just remember "Lifes a bit#$ and her happiness depends on how you treat her."

I must say this was a strange thread.  I just moved here, actually, I am in the process of moving.  I am a BB fan among other things.  A few observations.  DickieV - take my advice brother and seek help.  I have dealt with many brothers in your shoes.  Anger is your propellant.  This bitterness you hold toward our white brethren is a poisen.  Believe me when I say I have been there.  I was a prisoner of my own feelings.  After many years of anger, I have reached a point in which I blame no one.  Ironiccally, I have attained much success since this change.  The person setxbbfan made some valid points.  He sounds like a friend of yours.  Others also made some good points.

By the way, do the folks on the board ever talk BB - my true love?

yep we usually get 2 or 3 posts about basketball into each thread before we revert to the same racism talk we have every day

I can see that.  I hope, but doubt, that it is in fun.  I have done some counseling with young, black men on this very subject.  I hoped to talk some hoops.  Are their any other BB forums.
