FOX64 Beaumont will air a special program created and produced by Lamar University Department of Communication students, staff and alumni.  Surviving Rita: Looking Forward will air on Sunday, March 23 at 4:30 p.m. and again on Wednesday, March 26 at 9:00 p.m.

“The Lamar University faculty, staff and students are quite talented,†said FOX64 general manager, Bonita Elias.  “This is the first in a series of four half-hour shows the Lamar communications department has produced that will air on FOX64.  All of the productions include topics pertaining to the Golden Triangle and/or Lamar University.â€

Production of Surviving Rita: Looking Forward was made possible through a grant from Exxon Mobil in Beaumont and recounts the lessons learned from surviving and coping with a major hurricane.  Key information about evacuating safely and planning for future storms is the focus of the initial presentation.

“This is a great opportunity for the Beaumont area to see the high quality work our film and broadcast students produce at Lamar,†said Larry Elliott, professor of broadcasting.  “This gives our students an opportunity to air their work on a commercial network, a big plus for them.â€
