KFDM COOP Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Astros release pitcher Woody Williams The Astros released righthander Woody Williams on Saturday and announced Chris Sampson will occupy the final spot in the starting rotation. Williams was placed on waivers with the purpose of giving him his unconditional release, general manager Ed Wade said. Williams, who was to make $6.5 million this season, was 0-3 with an 11.32 ERA in six spring appearances. The Astros also announced that Roy Oswalt, Brandon Backe, Wandy Rodriguez and Shawn Chacon will pitch in the season-opening four-game series at San Diego, which begins Monday.

bullets13 Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 I had a feeling he wasn't going to do what they thought he would when they picked him up. At least they have the good sense to waive him. The rangers could learn a thing or two from this...
