Article from Corpus Christi mentions opening the field to all 11 teams (12 when UCA gets eligible)...

Count me as in! Let's expand to 11 (12 when UCA is eligible). That'd be great!

Campus sites for first round games. With 11 teams, you'd have the top five get byes and three first-round games (6 v 11, 7 v 10 and 8 v 9). 12 teams would give byes to the top four with four first rounders (5 v 12, 6 v 11, 7 v 10 and 8 v 9).

Let everyone in! That's what March Madness is about. Sure, you could have No. 11 make a Cinderella run, but more power to them, especially if they win a first round game on the road.

The only way I'd agree to that is for Lamar to have it on campus as everyone knows the Montagne Center is the best basketball arena in the SLC. If you can't go for that they have the cities of each school bid to hoist it on a off campus site. Beaumont could use Ford Park which isn't near as nice as the Montagne Center but with construction jobs coming to SE Texas, Beaumont and the surrounding cities could easily hold all the teams and their fan's who travel.

Personally, I'm against any form of conference tournament at the level of the SLC and below. The SLC should IMO just send the regular season conference champion. Again, before anyone gets upset it is just my opinion. That, plus a $1.25 and you can buy yourself a coke.

And what if Lamar did not qualify for the men's tournament? Would that do any favors to the Southland Conference? We've seen the problem on a smaller scale (with other conference tournaments), but basketball -- that's trouble.

Texas Terror, you can make that argument for any school or location. Wouldn't you agree? But if all the teams are in the tournament that would put Lamar in too, right?

I know I'm bias to Lamar but even with bad teams the people still come out and support basketball here. Heck, you know that just by the business of the guys running the other Lamar board. Basketball in SE Texas in big from HS to college and if there is a college tournament in Beaumont it will be well attended.

It will be better attended that having it in Katy or some other neutral site.

I don't think it really matters that much where the tourney is held or how many teams they let play in it.  If one of the top seeded teams cannot win the thing that means the conference isn't that good and no team will win the NCAA tourney.  The SLC needs to focus more on raising the level of play in the conference overall otherwise how they format the tourney doesn't really matter that much.

If all teams made it and on a neutral floor, what is the point of having SLC games. I say 6 teams on higher seed home court.

1 and 2 seed gets first round bye...

I DISAGREE TOTALLY!!  THAT IS NOT WHAT MARCH MADNESS IS ABOUT!!!  WHAT'S THE REGULAR SEASON FOR???  APPARENTLY NOTHING IN OUR EYES.  I THINK IT SHOULD BE REDUCED TO THE TOP 4 REGULAR SEASON TEAMS AND THE TEAM WITH THE BETTER CONFERENCE RECORD GETS THE HOMECOURT GAME.  I ALSO THINK THIS BUSINESS OF PLAYING IT IN KATY OR SHREVEPORT OR SOME NEUTRAL SITE IS ABSOLUTELY IGNORANT.

Woah! Calm down there, slugger...

Would we have seen Georgia make their awesome run in the SEC tournament if they did not let anyone in? Seems North Carolina State had some great runs of their own in the ACC when they weren't as high a seed...

The Southland Conference is about making $$$ for the conference. It may not work, but the SLC is doing what they can to make it work. I do not think it's going to last because the fans who are the closest to the event (SHSU) have turned their back on it before even getting it a chance. Then again, SHSU until this past year had not won a neutral or away postseason game since 1982, 1983...

And what do you think about splitting up the men's and women's tournament? Would that necessarily be a good thing? I think a guy from SLU recommended that the women end their season a week earlier...may be worthwhile.
