Student Organizations for Lamar Football

Anyone have any ideas for creating a student organization that will promote our football program and enhance student life? Currently there isn't one.  Well, duh.....I'm a Lamar grad 03' and grad student. If students and alumni come together, we can start our own organization that promotes Lamar football. Something besides the Cardinal Club.  This would be a football-only organization.  Just brainstorming ideas right now.  College campuses all across the nation have these groups, so it's time for us to start one.  Feedback please.  BTW - this includes fans, former students, former athletes - people that can bring ideas to the table.

roberthollister, this is a great topic for discussion. I think the Cardinal Club is great and I'm a member but I support discussion and new ideas on a football only organization or if possible some extention of the Cardinal Club that is focused just on football.

Personally, I think once the administration announces the football facilities renovation project plans and the new head coach is hired there will be a lot of great stuff coming out of the athletic development office. Things like met and greet the new coach, monthly member meeting to provide detailed information as to the state of the football program, the hiring of new members of the new coaching staff, the renovations of Cardinal Stadium updates, donation information, eventually meeting some of the athletes the coaching staff has recruited to Lamar, information about the football schedule, tailgate parties and etc.

One of the good things that came out of the Todd Graham "Era" at Rice was the Extra Point Club.

During football season, they have Monday night dinners. Each Monday during the season they have them and each time, a different group of players come to dinner and get to mingle with the members -- whether it be the offensive linemen or members of the secondary, etc.

Here's some more info:

A few other ideas...

Football 101. SHSU did this with the local radio station for women and they had coaches teach them the basics and then took them out to the football field. I know quite a few schools have done this including some of the big ones.

Signing Day Event. Always a good deal where the head coach shows videos of the recruits.

Just throwing out some things...

Do any SLC teams have something similar to this?  I'm sure McNeese does.  I'd be curious to look into SE LA.

I think Robert is thinking something more along the lines of the "L Raisers" but for football.  I think that anything that gets more students involved is a great idea.
