Guest mffl Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 Maybe not the height we were all looking for but i can almost assure Roc will try to land a big guy. This kid should be good, he was a stand out player and he should do well and start 3 years for us. The recruiting interest has always been there for Anthony Miles. The sharp-shooting 5-foot-11, 160-pound lead guard from Clear Brook High School in Friendswood backed it all up during his senior year with some fantastic play as well. All Miles needed to do was get his books in order - something that's still in progress - but one school has stuck with him the whole time and that program recently secured his verbal pledge. "I committed to Lamar last night," Miles said on Tuesday. "I just love Coach Roc (Steve Roccaforte) - he's a great guy and I love their style of play - they play up-tempo and there's a lot of four-out, one-in. They had a great year this year and I can get some big minutes there too." Miles felt comfortable enough with Lamar to commit without making an official visit, as he had been on campus unofficially twice before to attend Cardinal home games. There had been many schools who had shown interest in Miles but were hesitant because he still needs 40 points more on his SAT to become academically eligible. But Lamar continued to show their love and Miles rewarded them in kind. "They've been on me and have never given up on me," Miles said. "so I went ahead and committed." Since Miles still needs to take the SAT again to get his qualifying score - something he insists will not be an issue - there is an outside chance that Miles may still compete in an AAU tournament or two this spring, although with who he plays with has not yet been determined. Texas Hoops Analysis: ANTHONY is a quick and elusive point guard who saw his stock rise with steady and solid play all summer. He has a very good feel for the game, sees up the floor well, can push the ball in the transition game and finds the open man. He can break down the defense, scores well in the paint despite his size, has a soft touch on floaters and can shoot it with 3 point range. He handles the ball well versus pressure, makes good decisions and has quick hands on defense.
Guest abovetherim Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I think we locked up the PG position for the future here. This guy is really good. Of course, with recruiting you have to take some chances and I hope he can get the SAT score he needs. Now we need a PF/C who can score. A SG wouldn't hurt either.
Guest mffl Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I think we have enough SG with Moton, Williams, and Harper will play shooting guard too i'm guessing if he's only 6-4. I'm sure there will be a few dismissals from this team if he is going to sign other players.
Guest abovetherim Posted April 2, 2008 Report Posted April 2, 2008 I heard Harper has grown a little and is more like 6-6 now. I still think we can add one more player and still have everyone return. Nwevo and Custer not on athletic scholarhip but either grants, other aid or academic scholarships. I'm not sure what type of student Shane Mahoney is. That could be a option there. I still think we need a PF/C who can score. You might be correct about SG. Moton had some really impressive numbers at the end of the season.

When Coach Roc was talking about Harper a few weeks ago he said Harper was 6-6. I agree with you on the need for a PF/C who can score, but he has to be able to run the floor. Watching Memphis play this year, I bet Coach Roc is trying to build that type of team. There's not too many 6-9 guys who can run the floor, so he goes after the more plentiful 6-6 or 6-7 guys who can play the up-tempo game until he's able to land the bigger players.
