The girls finals will feature top-seeded Erin Kelley of Orangefield and Meredith Miller of Bridge City as both players were powerful Friday. Folks will be seeing ‘red†in the mixed doubles finals, as the defending district champion Bridge City tandem of Devon Armstrong and Shanita Maceda will face teammates Kegan Duplechin and Katelyn Reynolds in the finals. In boys singles, Orangefield junior Tyler Angelle found his way to the finals as well. Lady Bobcat Kelley had no problem flexing her muscles on the way to the finals as she downed Hardin-Jefferson’s Blake McGlaun 6-1, 6-0 and then blanked Kirbyville’s Mandy Holbert 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals. It took Miller three matches to advance to the title tilt. She pitched two early shutouts, downing H-J’s Jannie Castillo 6-0, 6-0 and Silsbee’s Brittany Colvin 6-0, 6-0. She then served and volleyed her way to a solid 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Kirbyville’s Shana Landry in the semis. In mixed doubles, Cardinals Armstrong and Maceda downed Kirbyville’s Kelsey Davidson and Chris Robbins 6-2, 6-1 and toppled Hamshire-Fannett’s Ashley Austin and Alan Bell 6-1, 6-1 in the semis. Teammates Duplechin and Reynolds defeated Orangefield’s Ariel Cook and Toliver Grimes 6-1, 6-3 and then toppled Kirbyville’s Devin Moore and Taylor Sims 6-4, 7-6.In boys singles, Bobcat Angelle posted two early blankings, defeating Hamshire-Fannett’s Chris Bell 6-0, 6-0 and downing H-J’s Cameron Johnson 6-0, 6-0. Angelle then downed Bridge City’s Clayton Rowe 6-0, 6-1 in the semis. Bridge City’s Rowe downed Jasper’s LaFrederick Bevil 6-0, 6-2 and then grinded out a thrilling 7-6, 5-7, 7-6 semifinal win over Xander Peters of Kirbyville 7-6, 5-7, 7-6. The finals and third-place matches will start up today at 8 a.m. In other boys singles action Friday, Bridge City’s Stephen Dotson downed Jasper’s Savian Wright 6-0, 6-0 and fell to top-seeded Matt Deavers of Silsbee 6-0, 6-0. Orangefield’s Dillin Lanting defeated West Orange-Stark’s Sam Webb 6-3, 6-4 and fell to H-F’s Jake Wilber 2-6, 7-6, 6-1. In girls singles Kristina Schisler downed WO-S’ Kathleen Monk 6-0, 6-2 and fell to Kirbyville’s Shana Landry 6-0, 6-0. WO-S’ Christyn Harris fell to Silsbee’s Katy Adams 6-0, 6-0. In girls doubles Orangefield’s Hannah Parker and Cheyenne Williams downed WO-S’ Gabrielle Saucier and Cassie Thompson 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 and lost to Silsbee’s Brittany Burrell and Rachel Easley 6-3, 6-3. Orangefield’s Shelby Price and Allison Yu downed WO-S’ Virginia Anthony and Rebecca Griffin 6-3, 6-1 and fell in a three-setter to Silsbee’s Jentry Lloyd and Ellen Rodgers 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. Bridge City’s Lindsey Garcia and Ngoc Vu lost to Silsbee’s Lloyd and Rogers 6-0, 6-0. In boys doubles, Bridge City’s Hunter Gothia and Blake Hanson defeated H-J’s Colby Sundgren and Ryan Weldon 7-6, 6-4; downed Orangefield’s Jeremy Granger and Kellen Free 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 and then they fell to H-F’s Terry Affolter and Nolan Nix 6-2, 6-1. Granger and Free earlier downed Silsbee’s Kyle Eaton and Dakota Ray 1-6, 6-2, 6-0. WO-S’ Patrick Laurence and Tim Moran fell to Kirbyville’s Shawn Atkins and Michael Whitten 6-1, 6-0. Bridge City’s Logan Bryant and Randy Dupuis dropped a 7-5. 6-0 decision to H-J’s Scott Archer and Jarrod Dickerson. Orangefield’s Caleb Powell and Matt Talbot fell to Kirbyville’s Cole Atkinson and Lane Tippett 6-0, 6-0. In mixed doubles, Orangefield’s Pleas Evans and Valen Johnson fell to Silsbee’s Tori Gardner and Hosen Zare 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
