Kirbyville girls win district tennis titles

BEAUMONT - The regional qualifiers have been determined.

The Bridge City boys won the District 21-3A Tennis Championships held at Lamar University Saturday, and Kirbyville won the girls division.

Bridge City's boys finished the tournament with a total of 10.5 points. Hamshire-Fannett and Kirbyville ended in a two-way tie for second place with 9 points each.

The Kirbyville girls won their title with 13 points. Orangefield finished second with 10 points, while Silsbee finished third with nine.

Silsbee's Matthew Deaver won his second-straight district title in boys singles. Deaver, who made it to the Class 3A state semifinals a year ago, beat Orangefield's Tyler Angelle 6-0, 6-0 to advance.

Kirbyville's Shawn Atkins and Michael Whitten won boys doubles. Atkins and Whitten beat Hamshire-Fannett's Terry Affolter and Nolan Nix 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Orangefield's Erin Kelly won the girls singles by beating Bridge City's Meredith Miller 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Kirbyville's Rachael Jones and Jessica Barfield beat Silsbee's Brittney Burrell and Rachael Easley in girls doubles 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Bridge City's Shanita Maceda and Devon Armstrong beat Bridge City's Katlyn Reynolds and Kegan Duplechin 7-6, 6-1 in mixed doubles.

As always the Boremont Enterprise got something wrong.  In boys doubles it was K-ville's Lane Tippett and Cole Atkinson beating HF's Affolter and Nix 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 for 1st place.  I really wish that they would get the info right for a change!!! >:(
