Guest mffl Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 UTA lookin good with the addition of this shooter 2007-08 was a landmark year for the University of Texas at Arlington as the Mavericks captured the Southland Tournament title and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Head coach Scott Cross and his staff are hoping to keep the momentum going and their success is showing up on the recruiting trail. UTA recently landed a spring sigining commitment for this year's class and it comes from the Chicagoland area in the name of Amani Williams, a sharp-shooting 6-foot-3, 170-pound guard from Elgin. Williams made his commitment to UTA a few weeks ago and did it sight unseen. "I really like the coaching staff, and I got to see them play in the Southland Conference Tournament championship and I like their style of play," Williams said. "I really like how the players were all united and stuff, so I felt it was a place where I could fit in." Williams is enhancing his feelings this weekend during his official visit to campus. "I'm checking out everything to get a feel for it - Six Flags and everything," Williams said. "It's nice here and warm - not like Chicago." A four-year varsity starter at Elgin High School, Williams averaged 20.5 points his senior season. A big-time three-point shooter, he plans on doing that and other things during his time in Arlington. "I'm just trying to get better in all aspects of the game," Williams said. "They got pretty far last year and hoepfully we can get even farther now too." Williams plans on signing with UTA the first day of the spring signing period next week and chose the Mavs over offers from Montana State, Northern Illinois, and Eastern Illinois.
UNLV Posted April 12, 2008 Report Posted April 12, 2008 UTA, like Lamar, needs to focus on big players.
Guest mffl Posted April 13, 2008 Report Posted April 13, 2008 They have at least Vereen coming back... and a 6-10 guy coming in. I think we have the right style but we need to replace some of the smaller guys with bigger guys who can run, defend, and block shots. Kind of like a Joey Dorsey in my opinion.
Guest coachacola Posted April 14, 2008 Report Posted April 14, 2008 According to Bob West in his Sunday article Roc is on the west coast looking for a big guy: Now that Kansas has rewarded Bill Self with a new contact, isn’t it about time Lamar did the same thing for Steve Roccaforte. While Roc didn’t win a national championship like Self did, in a relative sense it may have been bigger deal to end Lamar’s 24-year conference championship drought. Kansas, after all, only went 20 years between national championships. Roccaforte, by the way, has been on the West Coast beating the bushes for a desperately needed physical force around the basket. Signing day is Wednesday.

Here are just a few guys i see on JUCO junction who are uncommitted to schools: 13 Chop Tang Thatcher (AZ) Eastern Arizona J.C. F 6-7/220 list---- As you notice this Asian Baller is playing in Arizona, and this team also played in the same JUCO conference KD played in while at JC. 73 Marvin Jefferson Modesto (CA) Modesto C.C. F 6-8/235 list---- The bigger schools are waiting on Academics.. but theres not that much time to wait. He would be a big time player in the SLC. Led his Junior College league in Points, Rebounds, and Blocks. 110 Josh Crawford Oxnard (CA) C 7-0/ list-- Transfered from Iowa... big and skinny, but skilled. 182 Greg Truvillian Wesson (MS) Copiah-Lincoln C.C. F 6-8/225 list--- Originally from Michigan but played Juco ball in Miss. (I'm sure Bubba has seen this guy play if he's any good).
