643 Posted April 15, 2008 Report Posted April 15, 2008 This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up For those that has been keeping up with some MAJOR issues facing us as Texans concerning fishing OUR state waters. If your not aware the NMSF is trying to take over the regulation of OUR FISH and creating 'petting zones' for fish with closier of strips of the Gulf out to 200 miles offshore. This is NO joke the following is a response to the thread above>> I was at a political ralley in Sugar Land with 3800 people there to support a Lady running for Congress. The President flew in. Well guess what I was told today. The White House is behind the Enviros on this Red Snapper Issue. The White House is under the impression the broodstock has disappeared thanks to the Enviro Lawsuit and Phony Shrimp bycatch numbers of 80% when we knew the current data was 26%. Now I better understand the unholy alliance last year in Washington. If you wanted to get rid of the for hire sector as many have for years this is the way to do it without being up front about it. The Red Snapper issue is much more important than a rally for a Lady running for Congress. We need the largest turn out ever seen for a fisheries issue. We have to have big numbers. We at RFA support the For Hire Sector 100% as most recreational sector folks access their fishery via a for hire sector boat
643 Posted April 15, 2008 Author Report Posted April 15, 2008 BTW Texas waters go out 9 nautical miles offshore and is now and has been regulated by TPW. The NMFS controls the regs past Texas waters and their management of Red Snapper has been a trainwreck to say the least. They are pushing NO FISH zones and if they and the enviros have their way the Flower Gardens will be in the no fish zone. What is ABSOLUTELY shocking to me is the CCA is behind the NMFS on most issues including allowing Commercial Red Snapper fisherman to fish 365 days a yr and cutting the Recs to 66 days and also allowing them to fish till a >>voluntary quota is reached.
bh89-2 Posted April 17, 2008 Report Posted April 17, 2008 Everyone knows the comercial guys control these rules for their own benefit. Their intent is to strip mine the fishery and when the resources are gone they move on to other waters. I can't tell you how many times I ahve seen commercial boats over the Stetson Bank with a trail of small dead snapper floationg downstream of the boat. The release of small snapper to get a keeper is a whole other issue that begs attention and won't get it.
643 Posted April 21, 2008 Author Report Posted April 21, 2008 Congressman Nick Lampson has invited the top dog in NMFS Roy Crabtree to this townhall meeting in Clear Lake, The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. April 25th at the University of Houston, Clear Lake, 2700 Bay Area Blvd. in Clear Lake. The meeting will be in the Bayou Theater on the second floor of the Bayou Building. Houston media will be there and sure would be nice if we here in the Golden Tri had some coverage. If your not aware the Feds are out to controll (manage)our fisheries and this is something they have FAILED to do in Fed waters. The Great Texas Barrier Reef will be discussed.
