UT pitcher throws no-hitter against Texas State

AUSTIN - Kenn Kasparek threw a no-hitter and faced the minimum of 27 batters to lead Texas to an 11-0 win over Texas State on Tuesday.

Only a hit batter kept Kasparek from a perfect game. Kasparek plunked Thomas Field to begin the seventh, but then induced a double play grounder from the next batter.

Kasparek struck out nine and improved to 3-3 on the season. It is the 20th no-hitter in school history and the first since 2005.

At the plate, the Longhorns (27-18) were led by Michael Torres and Kyle Russell. Torres went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Russell was 4-of-5 with three runs and two RBIs. He also hit his 13th home run of the season.

The loss went to starter Kane Holbrooks, who fell to 2-5 for Texas State (24-19).

Kenn played at 2A Weimar, he's about 6'8. We played a regional tournament in Weimar for Babe Ruth when he was 16, he threw about 88 and was maybe a inch shorter at 16.

If I remember they were saving him for the championship game, we had Allen Harrington on the mound. Winner goes to championship game and on to the World Series. Score was tight 0-0 or 1-0 late in the game, Ken would go to the bullpen every inning after the 3rd.

They finally bring him in, he proceeds to strike out the side. Kenn comes up to bat, Allen plucks him on the foot and he trots down to 1st. With Kenn on 1st, their coach calls time and brings in a pinch runner. We get out of the inning, score still tied and big Ken comes out and toes the rubber.

Since Ken can't legally re-enter as a sub, he must come out. We end up winning and advancing to the World Series. Kenn pitches to 3 batters the whole regional tournament.
