Woodard Says "Thank You" When KFDM Congratulates Him on LU Coaching Job

KFDM News has learned the man expected to be named the new Lamar University head football coach has been staying at the MCM Elegante prior to Monday afternoon's news conference, and when KFDM News called his room and spoke with Ray Woodward, Junior, we congratulated him on the head coaching job - and he told us "thank you."

Woodward then added, "I'm here for the crawfish boil. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it - until two this afternoon."

That's when Lamar University has scheduled a news conference to introduce the new head coach.

Woodward has been the head coach at Navarro Junior College for one year.

He is married and has one daughter.

He'll begin recruiting a staff and players, and the team is expected to begin playing in 2010.

A multi-million dollar renovation project is underway at Cardinal Stadium to prepare for football.

Students have approved an athletic fee and the university is raising millions of dollars from private donors to help pay for the return of football, and regents still have several decisions to make in the process.
