Biggio, who retired following last season after 20 seasons with the Astros, was an assistant baseball and football coach this school year at St. Thomas, where his oldest son Conor is a student and football and baseball player. St. Thomas won the TAPPS Class 6A state championship in baseball earlier this month, the second in a row for head coach Ken Schulte, who is retiring from baseball. St. Thomas will have an assembly at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to announce Mike Netzel as its new athletic director as well as unveiling its new head football and baseball coaches. Biggio and Netzel didn't immediately return a phone call from the Chronicle seeking comment. Biggio, 42, has played in more games than any other player in Astros last year and last year got his 3,000th hit. He finished his career with 3,060 hits, putting him 20th all-time. He's the Astros' all-time leader in games, at-bats, runs, walks, doubles and is second in homers and RBIs behind Jeff Bagwell. [email protected]
